Education Beyond the Classroom: The Impact of Project Link on Westlake Students

by Dr. Scott Goggin, Superintendent, Westlake City Schools

Westlake City Schools is proud to offer various opportunities beyond the classroom. Project Link is one of those opportunities and is an initiative provided by the Westlake Board of Education. Project Link stands out as a comprehensive educational framework that caters to the diverse needs of Westlake students. From engaging before and after-school programs at Westlake Elementary, Dover Intermediate, and Lee Burneson Middle School to the vibrant Camp Link summer experiences, Project Link offers dynamic learning opportunities outside traditional learning boundaries.

Project Link begins each instructional day at 6:30 A.M. extending until 6:00 P.M. and is designed to integrate with students’ schedules, ensuring a creative and safe learning environment that aligns with academic standards. This commitment to educational excellence is reflected in the program’s mission, aiming to empower students to achieve academic success and personal satisfaction in an atmosphere brimming with excitement and nurturing care.

Understanding the needs of families, Project Link offers an affordable and flexible structure, charging $6.20/hour for the first child and $5.70/hour for subsequent siblings, with a nominal $60.00 registration fee per child. This approach ensures that families only pay for the time their children spend in the program, allowing for a customizable schedule that fits the unique needs of each family.

The summer months come alive with Camp Link, a fun experience that includes learning and adventures for students entering grades K-8. Camp Link promises a summer filled with diverse activities that entertain and educate. From weekly field trips to particular days at Hilliard Campus, Camp Link offers an unparalleled summer experience that encourages students to explore new interests, forge lasting friendships, and develop new strengths.

With an emphasis on social skill building, literacy, and active enrichment, Camp Link ensures that every day is a new adventure. Specialized activities like community service, media, gardening, and cooking enrich the camp experience, providing campers with a well-rounded summer that balances learning with fun.

Project Link exemplifies the Westlake City School’s commitment to fostering a community of lifelong learners. By extending educational opportunities beyond the classroom and into the vibrant life of the community, these programs ensure that every child in Westlake has the chance to grow, learn, and thrive in an environment that cherishes creativity and personal development.

The continued success of Project Link stands as a testament to the power of community, innovation, and education working hand in hand to uplift and inspire the next generation of learners.

Project Link offers a wide array year-round enrichment programming for students in grades K-12. A sampling of offerings include Art, Chess, College Test Prep, Science, Cheer, Fitness and Rugby as well as many others.
