Take Me Out to the Ball Game

A Bay Village Independence Day tradition is the old-time baseball game held in Cahoon Park on the Fourth of July as part of the community’s Bay Days celebration.

In this year’s rivalry match, the fabled Whiskey Island Shamrocks defeated the beloved Bay Villagers Vintage Baseball Team, 12-5.

The crowd was estimated to be the largest ever for a Villagers’ game! Thanks to the cranks (aka fans) that showed up in force to root, root, root for the home team!’ The game was played under 1865 rules, with fielders manning their positions sans gloves and the home plate umpire standing aside the plate. Old-time woolen uniforms added to the fun.
