Westlake High School TechMates Club member AMANDA SHI (rising junior) was recently selected as one of the winners in the Group “C” division (grades 9-12) for her entry in the 26th Annual Ohio Schools Magazine Create a Cover contest.
The other two divisions were Group “A” (grades K-4) and Group “B” (grades 5-8). Winners of each category have their work featured inside the just-released June/July 2024 issue and received a $50 gift card.
Students were to design a cover that best expresses their ideas on the theme “What makes my school great”, whether it’s a teacher or staff member, friends, special projects, classes, or extracurriculars.
Shi’s design was created as an inked technical drawing based on an aerial drone photo of the high school main entrance. Musical notes meandering into the air emanating from paint brushes, along with an airborne drone reflect the interests of her daily class schedule. An image of the world was superimposed as a background behind the building. Prismacolor pencils and airbrushing added key colors to the composition.
