Rocky River is celebrating the 1964 Southwestern Conference championship football team this Friday, Oct. 25, at the River-Bay game. All members of the ’64 team are invited! Here’s the info:
Dear Fellow Football Teammates and Classmates
On Friday night, October 25th, 2024, the Rocky River High School Athletic Department headed
by Athletic Director, Mark Wagner, would like to recognize and honor the 1964 Southwest
Conference Football Championship Team.
That’s us!
It will be at home in the new stadium
when the Pirates take on the Bay High Rockets. What a great scenario, River versus Bay. The
rivalry is just as intense now as it was when we stepped on the field together 60 years ago.
There will be a tent set up in the south end of the stadium with chairs and tables for former
players and guests. I’m hoping as many teammates as possible will try to make their way back
to Rocky River for the game. I’ve been in contact with Rupert Beckstett from the class of 1966
and he’s contacting the Junior teammates. I would also hope that as many of our classmates
as possible would also try to attend the game.
Some of you may remember my little sister Terri who is now Terri Kergaard Zastudil. If you still follow the Browns, her son Dave, punted
for them for 5 years. He was also a Bay High Rocket. Terri was instrumental finding a location
where we can meet after the game to celebrate and reminisce. That location is the “Old River
Tap and Social” across from the old Beachcliff Theater. Cofounder Brian Vest is donating their
large room for us to meet.
Hopefully, you will mark the date on your calendar and we will see
each other again without pads and helmets. Please let me know if you think you can attend
and please help pass the word. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Dave Kergaard
