Avon Looks for Regional Football Title

It will be 13-0 Avon vs. 13-0 Medina Highland at Elyria Ely Stadium in an OHSAA Div. II Region 6 championship football game this Friday night at 7 p.m.

For the Avon Eagles, this is the 8th straight season the team will play for a coveted regional crown. The Eagles advanced to the elite-8 berth on the strength of a overwhelming 41-10 win over previously undefeated Wadsworth last Friday. Avon is the bracket’s top seed while Wadsworth was ranked fifth.

Highland, the bracket’s second seed, promised to bring a tougher challenge after a 38-14 rout of third-seed Anthony Wayne last weekend.

In the win over Wadsworth, Avon was paced by star quarterback Nolan Good. The all-star senior accounted for 282 of the team’s 485 yards in the game. He was 15-21 passing for 180 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for 102 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to break the game open at 27-7.

Avon advanced to the regional semifinal game with a 52-35 win over Olmsted Falls a week earlier.
