Bay Village Kiwanis Christmas Tree Sale Unwrapped

The time has arrived for the Annual Bay Village Kiwanis Christmas Tree sale at the Cahoon Park Gazebo. Nearly 400 Frasier Firs, Canaan Firs, and Colorado Spruce will soon be delivered, sorted, untied and displayed for community members and families to begin their pilgrimage to Bay Village Cahoon Park to select the perfect tree to adorn their home. But there is more to the story…

These trees were grown in the rolling hills of Frombell, Pennsylvania on a 600 acre family owned farm named Lake Forest Gardens. This 3rd generation business was established in 1939 and continues to be a successful retail and wholesale business 85 years later. The Dambach family tags, cuts, twine ties, and promptly trucks the trees 2 ½ hours to Bay Village.

Not sure which tree to select? All three varieties are great choices, but the most popular tree at the Kiwanis Bay Village lot is the Frasier Fir. This tree has blue/green needles with a silvery underside and features excellent needle retention, stiff branches, and a pleasant scent. The Canaan Fir has a rich color, features shorter and softer needle, strong branches and the perfect holiday scent. Finally, you won’t be disappointed with the Colorado Spruce which is silver/blue, stiff branches to support those heavy ornaments, sharp needles to deter your pets from climbing the tree, and features long needle retention.

What to do once you get your beautiful tree home? The Kiwanis members will be happy to cut 1” off of the trunk to allow the tree to again take in water before leaving the lot. Within 1 hour of the cut, place the trunk in a bucket of water to allow the water absorption to take place. If you aren’t able to do this or the water dries up, you should recut the tree base before placing it in the tree stand. Always try to keep the base covered with water. Watering the tree several times a day for a few days will assure your tree will stay as fresh as possible, and water as needed throughout the season. Try to keep it away from heat sources, such as register ducts or fireplaces.

Special thanks to our Service Leadership Program, Bay High Key Club, which will be lending their support at the tree lot, along with volunteers from the Bay Village FireFighters and Key Club parents. Kiwanis also donates the city tree lit in the Gazebo, which is decorated by the Key Club leadership team. The service department helps set the lot up and the Bay School provides the trailer to store items. And the Garden Club gathers the tree trimmings for their holiday centerpieces. It is truly a community event!

The Kiwanis of Bay Village has been providing our community trees for over 15 years. Our members enjoy interacting with the community and helping to continue the Christmas tradition of selecting a fresh tree in a convenient and fun way. Our customers enjoy free hot chocolate and candy canes while listening to holiday music, as well as experiencing the warmth and smell of a crackling fire. We will also deliver the tree locally, help place in or tie on top of your vehicle.

The Kiwanis is proud that 100% of our proceeds go back into our community for scholarship, community projects, and families in need. The best story comes from a man who stopped by the lot one year and paid for a tree that he had taken when he was unable to pay many years before. He said that it had laid heavy on his heart all of those years and he was now able to pay and happy to do so!

The Bay Village Kiwanis Christmas tree lot opens at 9 a.m. the day after Thanksgiving and is open 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Friday evenings and Saturdays and Sundays 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. through December 15th (unless sold out earlier).
