Westlake Porter Public Library Hosting Open House

An Open House at Westlake Porter Public Library will reveal the results of the recent renovation project. The celebration will take place on Wednesday, January 15 from 4-6 p.m. Remarks will take place at 4:30 p.m.

The project is Phase 2 of improvements requested by library users in a 2021 public survey. It includes a new Young Adult area, a re-worked Circulation Department and an updated second floor.

The Young Adult area is both larger and separated from the rest of the Youth Services Department, giving teens a dedicated space. It includes improved shelving for a more robust Young Adult collection, gaming equipment, which will free up meeting rooms formerly used for such activities, and flexible and comfortable seating,

The Circulation Department includes a reorganized layout which allows visitors to return materials directly into the sorting machine for immediate check-in. As a bonus, a window offers a view of the sorter in action. The reorganization also provides a new passport office, plus a direct line of site from the Circulation Desk to the Drive-Up Window for a more efficient workflow.

The second floor includes additional seating areas and workspaces, as well as two additional meeting rooms that will be available for programs and patron use.

“This is the community’s library, so they should be able to use the second floor,” said Library Director Andrew Mangels. “In addition, many of changes are the result of needs and wishes expressed in the 2021 survey, and we are pleased that we are able to give our community what they asked us for.”
