Westshore Arts Council: “Caravaggio: The Outlaw Painter”

One of the most important and successful artists in history was also remarkedly ill behaved. Michelangelo Merisi, better known as Caravaggio, led a revolution in painting that would influence artists all over Europe. His dark manner paintings, known as “Tenebrism”, produced sharply spotlighted figures against deep, dark backgrounds. However, he was listed in police records 14 times in a six-year period and was forced to flee Rome due to a murder charge. When his benefactors had secured a pardon for him, he died mysteriously at age 38.

If you want to learn more about this artist who had an impact on the art world, please join the Westshore Arts Council on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 3 pm at Westlake Porter Public Library. Local artist, teacher and art historian, Sean Crum, will present the program on “Caravaggio: The Outlaw Painter.” Crum received a Master of Art degree from Case Western Reserve University. His work has been featured in many shows, received many awards, and is in numerous collections. Crum is currently teaching art history for the Center for Lifelong Learning at Lorain County Community College, and he continues to do museum tours and art demonstrations.

The Westshore Arts Councils is very excited to bring this free program to the Westshore Communities. Complimentary refreshments will be available.
