Four Grants Awarded to Westlake City School Staff Members

The Westlake Educational Foundation is excited to award four grants totaling over $17,000 to Westlake City Schools staff. The grants awarded will foster creative learning opportunities and enrich student experiences throughout their school year.

Westlake Elementary School guidance counselors, Dana Bail, Mallorie Haworth and Amanda Kelber received a grant to purchase calming kits and resources for each classroom. These tools will help create a supportive environment where students can effectively manage their emotions.

Another grant was awarded to Angela Germano and Bridget Royce at Dover Intermediate School. Their grant will be used to purchase outdoor tables and chairs to help increase student engagement through outdoor learning spaces.

Lela Bakos and Julie Milkie at Lee Burneson Middle School received a grant for a project that will create an outdoor educational classroom with the purchase of Adirondack chairs, ADA picnic tables and a giant Connect Four game. This space will promote positive mental health, creativity, and academic performance for all 7th and 8th grade students and staff.

Westlake High School teacher, Leia Crew, was awarded a grant to purchase a pottery wheel. This grant will give all students an opportunity to blend art and science. They will explore creativity while learning about the properties of clay, firing techniques, and glaze chemistry.

The Westlake Educational Foundation’s mission is to enhance educational opportunities and experiences of Westlake City Schools’ students in the endeavor to “Educate for Excellence.” The foundation is grateful for its community partners, as it relies on money raised from donations and fundraisers to award staff grants.

The Westlake Educational Foundation will be hosting a Spring Fun Run in conjunction with Westlake Kiwanis breakfast on Sunday, April 6, 2025. The race will include a Kids Dash, 2 mile & 4-mile races.
