Westlake Educational Foundation Announces 5th Annual Car Raffle Winners!

Greg and Jackie Plantner receive the keys to their new car from Patty McHugh, Westlake Educational Foundation President; Scott Goggin, Superintendent and Foundation Chairperson; Chris Steiner, Foundation Treasurer, and Mary Essig, Foundation Board Member

The Westlake Educational Foundation recently concluded its 5th annual car raffle, announcing the winners for eight exciting raffle prizes. Due to the generosity of Serpentini Chevrolet of Westlake, the grand prize was a 2025 Chevy Malibu, and Jackie and Greg Plantner were the lucky winners of the new car.

As in prior years, the Foundation partnered with other organizations within the school district who support various aspects of Westlake student life.  By promoting the raffle and donating prizes for the raffle, Westlake Demons Athletic Boosters, Westlake Music Boosters, Westlake PTAs, and Westlake Alumni Association shared in the ticket sales proceeds.  With their involvement and support, the Foundation’s fifth car raffle sold almost $30,000 worth of tickets.

These proceeds will help the Foundation and its partner organizations support their respective missions, ultimately enhancing the curricular and extra-curricular activities of Westlake City Schools’ students.  For example, the Foundation recently awarded over $16,000 in grants to teachers at each of the four Westlake City schools to support creative and innovative teaching experiences in their respective classrooms. And over $70,000 has been awarded by the Foundation since the first car raffle in 2021.

In addition to the Chevy Malibu grand prize, Brian Will won the PTA “Pickleball Anyone?” basket, donated by North Ridge Racket & Paddle; Chalon Patterson won the Westlake Educational Foundation’s prize, a FOUNT Eloise Tote; Mary Mathewson won the Westlake Demons Athletic Boosters basket and the Westlake PTA “Ride In Style” basket; Steve Patriok won the Westlake Music Boosters basket; and Rachel Meyrose and Jonathan Amity each won $250 from the Westlake Alumni Association.

The Westlake Educational Foundation’s mission is to enhance the educational opportunities and experiences of Westlake City Schools’ students in the endeavor to “Educate for Excellence”. The Foundation is grateful for its community partners, as it relies on money raised from donations and fundraisers, such as the car raffle, to award staff grants.

The Foundation will be hosting a Spring Fun Run in conjunction with the Westlake Kiwanis pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Westlake High School. The race will include a Kids’ Dash, a 1-mile run/walk, and 2- & 4-mile races. Free kids’ activities will be available in the Westlake High School auxiliary gym during and after the races. Games and activities include face painting, corn hole, hula hoops, bowling, limbo and soccer.
