Avon Lake Wrestling Ends the Season on a High Note

The scholastic wrestling season came to a conclusion at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Arena last weekend.

Three area athletes stood on the podium at the conclusion of competition, all representing Avon Lake High School. The three are junior Destiny Cabot, who places 4th at 100 pounds. She completes the season with a 33-14 record. Next is senior Rejan Alhashash, who placed 6th at 150 pounds. Rejan entered the tournament as reigning state champ, but a knee injury forced her to default her last three matches. Her courageous performance saw her lifted on and off the mat in her final, medal-clinching bout. She ends the season with a 48-3 record, all three defeats coming as injury defaults. For the boys, senior Jack Valerino ends his career with a state medal. He placed 8th at 138 pounds and concludes the year with a 52-10 mark.

Congratulations to Rejan Alhashash of Avon Lake Wrestling. She passed a milestone at the Firestone District Tournament two weeks ago as she notched her 150th win. Her dedication, hard work, and skill on the mat are truly inspiring, and we’re so proud of her achievement! Keep pushing, Rejan – the best is yet to come!
