High (School) Drama Takes Center Stage

All the high drama going on in the world today isn’t just happening on Wall Street or Washington, DC.

A much more enjoyable form of drama is on stage in our local high school auditoriums and performing arts centers where casts and crew have been wowing audiences with incredible productions.

Bay High Drama closed their spring musical production of The Music Man this past weekend. Selling out three of the four shows, almost 3000 guests were in attendance.

With a cast, crew, and orchestra of 115-plus students from grades 3 to 12, it was a huge undertaking. The students began with auditions in December, with rehearsals and crew meeting beginning after the new year. The shows on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday were well received by the community and fellow students.

Director Luke Scattergood expresses his thanks to the community for their support. “It means so much to the students to have their hard work seen by so many. Without the support of our community we wouldn’t be able to continue to do what we do. Thank you!”

At Westlake High, it was Guys & Dolls that packed the house for four performances over last weekend. This musical about gamblers and the women they love, set in Depression-era Times Square, was a winner. Luck was a lady for all who witnessed this winning production.

Matilda was the presentation at Rocky River High. This hit story of an extraordinary girl dramatizes how a sharp mind and a vivid imagination to take a stand for change with miraculous results.
