Combine handmade boats, two raingutters, and the enthusiasm of over 40 K to 5th-grade Cub Scouts—and you have the makings of a fun-filled Saturday afternoon!
Each May, Avon Lake Cub Scout Pack 3334 hosts its annual Raingutter Regatta, a lively race of creative, handcrafted boats that signals the end of the scouting year with excitement and camaraderie.
“Much like the Pinewood Derby cars, our Scouts help design, craft, paint, and will even power their own boats across the finish line,” said Cubmaster Chris Gonzales. “This hands-on activity encourages creativity, teamwork, and a real sense of pride.”
Spectators enjoyed lively boat races with lots of cheering – these Cub Scouts take their Regatta seriously! Before the race kicked off last Saturday, Pack 3334 held their Cub Scout Crossover Ceremony as each Scout celebrated the completion of their badge requirements and crossed into the next level of Cub Scouts.
“The best part of the whole day is watching the Scouts cheer each other on,” Assistant Cubmaster Ben Kosewski continued. “Kids from kindergarten through fifth grade really get into cheering for each other as the boats cross the finish line.”
This event is a fantastic opportunity for families and community members to support local youth committed to developing their leadership skills and being the best community members they can be. The event was held at Lake Shore United Methodist Church.
Leadership Transitions for School Year 2025-2026
Pack 3334 is happy to announce two leadership transitions for the upcoming school year. Chris Gonzalez is moving into Scouting America (Boy Scouts) and Ben Kosewski will assume the role of Cubmaster. Additionally, Shannon Dominy is transitioning the role of Committee Chair to Jeff Rutherford at the end of this school year.
“We are immensely grateful to Chris and Shannon for their leadership during a challenging time marked by the COVID pandemic,” said Jeff Rutherford. “Their dedication helped guide our pack through those uncharted times, and we look forward to their continued contributions.”
