Suspicious Condition
On 8/1/25 at about 8:45PM, the manager of a restaurant on Sperry Dr called to report a suspicious condition. A man had entered the establishment in the company of a 6yo child. The pair sat at the bar. When the man was passing out there, the staff directed them to a table and called the WPD to check on the welfare of the child. Officers arrived and found that the 44yo Lakewood man was hardly able to keep his eyes open and appeared otherwise intoxicated. He said that he lost his cell phone in the few minutes he had been at the bar and lost his wallet about 2 weeks prior. He was there with his daughter and had driven to the restaurant. Officers had to contact relatives to come pick up the juvenile. The man was arrested and charged with child endangering, possession of a bulk amount of psilocybin, which is a controlled substance, and being unable to care for himself due to intoxication in public.
Drunk Drivers
On 8/2/25 at approx. 5PM officers responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash with airbag deployment at Detroit and Crocker Rds. One of the vehicles drove away but only made it into the parking lot of a nearby business. As the officers were speaking with the victim driver, whose van had serious damage, an obviously intoxicated female waved them down from the tree lawn of the nearby business. She indicated that the guy who was driving the vehicle she had been in fled the scene as he “had three DUI’s.” She complained that this man, whom she only knew as “Kevin” also took her car keys. Observant officers noted that a man was hanging around nearby and was very interested in the commotion. The female denied that he was involved but when confronted, the also inebriated man finally admitted he had been the driver during the crash. Reports note that the female, a 35yo Cleveland resident, yelled at the man after he admitted his involvement by reminding him that she advised him “to fu***** leave” to avoid being identified by the police. Field tests were administered to the male driver who was arrested for OVI and cited with prohibited U-Turn. The female passenger was cited with being intoxicated and disorderly in public as well as for obstruction. The driver refused a breath test. Luckily, no one reported any injuries from the collision.
Suspect Flees on Foot
On 8/3/25 at about 3:45AM, officers stopped a vehicle at Crocker and Detroit after witnessing it drive through a red light. The driver, a 34yo man who listed an address in the Bronx, NY, admitted to possessing a marijuana cigarette and an open container of alcohol in plain view when they were pointed out by the officer. The investigator noted signs of impairment and asked the man to step from the vehicle several times. He did not follow these lawful directions. Soon, the officer noticed that the man had a handgun in his hoodie pocket and again ordered him to step from the car. The suspect did step out but immediately fled on foot with officers in pursuit. The man was continually ordered to stop and to quit reaching for the firearm but he would not comply until he stumbled, lost control of the gun, and was dragged to the pavement. The Smith and Wesson M+P Bodyguard .380 was recovered by the officers from the ground while the man resisted their efforts to handcuff him. He was finally secured and transported to the Westlake Jail. His car was towed away and the man was charged with OVI, improperly handling firearms and disobeying a traffic control device. Reports note that the suspect has a criminal history which includes offenses of robbery, gang related assaults and numerous weapons possession offenses. Therefore, he is not allowed by law to possess a gun. Additional charges such as resisting arrest with a gun and having weapons under disability will be presented at Grand Jury. He was seen in Rocky River Municipal Court and given a bond of $15,000 cash or surety.
Warrants with Firearms
On 8/9/25 at approx. 8:30PM, officers stopped a vehicle on I90 near Clague for moving and license plate violations. The driver admitted he had a suspended driver’s license. The 29yo Cleveland man also had warrants from 3 other agencies for past traffic offenses. Investigation revealed that he also possessed a loaded firearm in the car. He had not informed the officers when asked about being armed. The driver was arrested for his warrants and driving under suspension. He was also cited with misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.
Burglaring Senior Facility
On 8/12/25 at about 12:45PM, WPD received a call from a nursing home on Center Ridge reporting a suspicious man who had been wandering around inside the facility. He had been there for some time and when confronted by staff, indicated he was there to see a relative. Staff noted that he was seen entering residents’ rooms but not actually visiting a particular person. When asked to leave, he did not comply with the staff. When officers responded, they found the described man across the street. He indicated to the investigators that he had been inside the facility to visit his grandmother. When asked about her name, the suspect said that he only knew her first name. It was Juanita. Noting the suspicious statement that the man did not know his grandmother’s last name, the officers confirmed that no Juanita lived at the facility. Surveillance showed that the man was wandering around inside for about 40 minutes. It was confirmed that he entered a resident’s room and stayed inside for several minutes rummaging through belongings. The 22yo Elyria man was arrested and charged with burglary.
Active Warrant
On July 28 at 5:00 pm, BVPD conducted a traffic stop near Rye Gate/Chelsea for a traffic violation. Upon identifying the driver, he had an active warrant out of Coshocton County Sheriff Department. The male was detained, and the warrant was confirmed. The male was transported to BVPD where he was booked and housed until transportation arrangements were made to pick up the male.
Confused Business Partners
On July 28 at 6:45pm a Clague Parkway business owner reported someone had taken items from his store earlier in the day. Further, he was able to provide a partial vehicle license plate and a description of the male who had entered into the business and walked out with items. After a brief investigation, Bay Village Detectives discovered a business partner had given the suspect male permission to take the items and how to get into the building. The two parties were able to set up a time for the items to be returned. The owner wished for no further police involvement or prosecution.
Seeking Inspiration
On July 28 at 8:06 pm, a caller reported a possible OVI on Wolf Road near Upland Road. The caller reported a vehicle swerving and traveling at a slow speed. BVPD located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver showed no signs of impairment and stated they were out taking a tour of homes in Bay Village. They explained they were remodeling their home and needed some inspiration for theirs. They were advised and sent on their way.
Call for Help
On July 29 at 6:44am, a resident out walking heard an elderly male calling for help on Elmwood Road. The caller located the male, contacted BVPD and requested EMS. BVFD & BVPD responded and the male was transported to a local hospital.
Courtesy Ride Given
On July 30 at 9:10 am, Bay Village Police received a call reporting a male with two suitcases asking for money at Bay Square. BVPD responded and located the male in front of Subway. The male was given a courtesy ride to the RTA rapid station.
Standoff
On July 30 at 2:55 pm, BVPD responded to Clemens Rd in Westlake to assist with a standoff. Westlake Police reported an on-going incident in which the driver was involved in two separate pursuits and was refusing to exit the vehicle. BVPD assisted and the male was taken into custody.
Summer Fun
On July 30 at 9:15 pm a Normandy Road resident contacted BVPD reporting someone had banged on her door so hard it scared herself and children. When the resident looked out the window, she observed group of boys running away from her home. When BVPD responded, the group began running from police before eventually giving up. The group were counseled on their actions and their parents picked them up.
Medical Incident
On July 31 at 1:43 pm, BVFD received an Apple Watch alert reporting a medical incident on Norfolk Dr. BVFD and BVPD responded and were able to locate the female who had fallen and possibly fractured her arm. She was transported to a local hospital.
Scam
On August 1 at 1:42 pm, a resident responded to BVPD to report she was a victim of a scam. The elderly female received a call from someone claiming they worked for Spectrum and had a discount for seniors. The female shared her bank information. The female contacted Spectrum back and was told they don’t offer this discount and advised her this was a scam. The female was able to contact her bank and is not out any money.
Scammed for $1500
On August 1 at 2:38 pm, a resident arrived on station to report she fell victim to a scam. The female thought she had applied for a remote job as a personal assistant for a doctor. The female was sent fraudulent checks to deposit into her bank account and is out $1,500. Bay Village Detectives are investigating.
Watch Your Language!
On August 1 at 2:54 pm, Verizon employee contacted BVPD to report a customer had made comments to workers earlier in the day, stating “you’re the reason why people like you get shot.” BVPD responded and spoke with workers at Verizon, who stated this was due to them not accepting a router box return. The customer was later contacted by phone and was advised that law enforcement was now involved and that she was trespassed from the Bay Village Verizon store.
Custody Dispute
On August 1 at 6:33 pm, a female contacted BVPD regarding a custody dispute with her ex-husband. She was upset that her ex-husband had allowed their child to go to a friend’s house in Bay without her permission. She requested BVPD make her child’s father drive their son home. Police advised her that without court documents, their verbal child custody agreement was a civil matter and police would not be enforcing this request.
Delinquency of a Minor
On August 3 at 4:38 am, BVPD received a call from a female who requested assistance at Cahoon Park due to her vehicle not starting. BVPD responded and spoke with the caller and her male friend. Upon speaking with the two, Police discovered the male was an adult and the female was a juvenile. Further, the male driver of the vehicle was showing a suspended license. After an investigation, the male was arrested for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor and Possession of Marijuana. The juvenile female was transported to BVPD to have a parent pick her up. The parent responded and advised they had been out looking for her all night and was thankful she would be charged. Both are facing court charges.
Fraudulent Document
On August 4 at 5:00 pm, a resident came to the station to report a fraudulent document they received in the mail. Upon speaking with the resident, they advised they had received a document from Medina Country Clerk of Court. When they contacted the court, they were informed the document was fraudulent and wasn’t sent by the courts. Police are investigating.
Utility Wires Downed
On August 5 at 10:30 am, a garbage truck on Oakmoor got entangled in electric wires causing the street to be shut down. CEI responded and were able to remove the wires safely. Bay Village service/BVFD responded and placed barricades until the roadway could be opened.
Test Ride
On August 5 at 11:41 pm, a BVPD unit monitored an E-Bike on Lake Road going at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted, and it was discovered this was not an “E-Bike” as it did not have pedals rather it was closer to an electric motorcycle. The male stated it was a friend’s and he was taking it on a test ride. The male was given a verbal warning and advised to return the bike to their friend. He was advised future contact would result in a ticket and possible impound of unit.
Felony Drug Violation
On August 8 at 8:39 am, BVPD conducted a traffic stop on Wolf Road near Lake Forest. Police spoke with the operator, who gave police consent to search the vehicle. The male was later arrested for a felony drug violation. The male was brought back to BVPD jail to be booked and held to see a judge through Rocky River Municipal Court.
Multiple Suspensions
On August 7 at 7:47 am, a BVPD unit conducted a traffic stop on Lake Rd near the Rocky River border. Upon investigation, the operator was found to have multiple suspensions and a probable cause search yielded drug paraphernalia. The male was issued citations and the vehicle was towed from the scene. The 35-year-old Cleveland resident was charged with driving under suspension, display of plates, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He will be facing charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.
Fraudulent Documents
On August 7 at 1:57 pm, an individual responded to BVPD lobby with fraudulent documents in an attempt to get a towed vehicle released from impound. Upon investigation, it was found that the true owner had not signed any paperwork. The suspect female was arrested and booked into the BVPD jail. The 36-year-old Lorain resident was charged with Obstructing Official Business and was given a personal bond. She will be facing charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.
Driving on Sidewalks
On August 9 at 8:41 pm, a BVPD unit observed a group of motorcycles and a dirt bike. A traffic stop was attempted on the dirt bike and sport bike operating without license plates. The two motorcycles began driving on the sidewalks near Bassett/Lake Rd. Due to safety concerns, BVPD did not pursue and notified Avon Lake PD of the approaching vehicles.
