Bay High Students Push Towards $1 Million Raised to Fight Blood Cancer

In an incredible demonstration of community spirit, Bay High School students are pushing toward a $1 million milestone in the fight against blood cancers.

Inspired by their classmates’ battles, Bay Village teens are racing to raise $150,000 in a seven-week campaign for Blood Cancer United. This year’s effort puts Bay’s annual campaigns close to the $1 million mark.

A top event in his year’s drive was the Shave to Save assembly for Blood Cancer United.

Principal Jason Martin joined in this effort by undergoing the shears (along with students).

“Thanks to this great group of students who stepped up to shave their heads to raise funds for Blood Cancer United at our annual Shave to Save assembly!”

In a letter to the community, Martin summarizes the importance of this drive.

“There are moments in leadership that stop you in your tracks and remind you exactly why we do what we do,” writes Martin to Alumni. “I am incredibly proud to share that more than 65 of our students have come together to form team “It Takes a Village” as part of the Blood Cancer United’s Student Visionary campaign. For five weeks, these students have put the needs of others above their own, working tirelessly to raise funds for advocating this mission, the life-saving research and critical support for patients and families facing blood cancer.

“This year, our students have the opportunity to do something truly historic. By reaching our goal this year, Bay High School students will have raised over one million dollars in under a decade for this cause!”

Martin commends the many students who have stepped up, taken the torch and carried it forward.

He also recognizes the unity it brings to Bay Village, from grades K-12, educators, alumni and families.

Bay High School has a chance to make history with the “It Takes A Village” campaign team for Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) – and they could use everyone’s help.

Anything that alumni and Bay Village residents can do to help them set this national record will be greatly appreciated.
