The Avon Lake Police Department (ALPD) would like to announce the department’s newest member – Crisis K9 Ruby. Ruby and her handler, ALPD Detective Robert Walborn, recently completed the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy’s (OPOTA) inaugural Crisis K9 certification class.
Ruby will be called upon to serve the community during critical incidents where her OPOTA training and calm demeanor can help reduce anxiety and support emotional recovery and well-being. She will also aid law enforcement officers in dealing with the day-to-day stresses of their job.
“Ruby will be available to provide comfort to those in crisis by providing a connection that traditional policing may not have bridged,” said ALPD Chief Caleb Robinson. “She will also assist the community and our law enforcement officers when dealing with critical incidents. Ruby is going to be a big addition to our team here at the Avon Lake Police Department.”
Ruby will also participate in community engagement presentations and civic events. Please reach out to Detective Walborn for more information.
