Big Boy Returns!

Everybody loves a train! Especially when it is something special like Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s largest operating steam locomotive. Built in 1941 to haul heavy freight over the Rocky Mountains, it weighs 1.2 million pounds. Eight survive today, but 4014 is the only one still fully operational. It passed through the area twice this summer – once in June as it headed east and again last Monday on its return westbound journey.
