Reading of The Declaration of Independence

Thank you to Westlake Porter Public Library for hosting a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, honoring the first public reading of the document on July 8, 1776.

Westlake joined communities across the country in recreating this historic moment as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. The Sons of the American Revolution color guard opened and closed the ceremony, while community members took turns reading the Declaration aloud.

Thank you to everyone who participated, attended, and helped make the evening a meaningful reminder of our nation’s history and the importance of coming together as a community.
