Unsupervised Kids

On 6/21/26 at about 6:30PM, officers responded to a complaint of loud music coming from a vehicle in the parking lot of a condo complex in the 29000 block of Center Ridge Rd. The complainant also believed that the occupants of the red Ford Focus were smoking marijuana in the car. Officers located the described vehicle which was then moving through the lot. The driver looked very young. The car parked in a spot before the officer had a chance to pull it over. The driver was identified as a 13yo Cleveland girl. The passenger was a 19yo man. The odor of burnt marijuana was detected. While the officers were talking to the occupants, the juvenile’s guardian walked up. The 24yo Cleveland woman explained that she had just driven the three of them to the condos and had left the car to meet someone who she did not want to identify. Evidently, the 13yo and the 19yo decided to drive the car around the parking lot. While trying to sort out what was going on, a pistol magazine was observed in a vehicle door pocket. The loaded firearm was found under a seat. The adults both admitted to knowing about the gun. Both adults were arrested. The juvenile was transported to the WPD lobby to await a relative. Both adults were charged with improper handling of a firearm and endangering children.

Reckless Vehicle

On 6/23/26 at approx. 10:15PM, a concerned caller reported a reckless vehicle in the area of Columbia and Detroit Rds. The witness watched as the BMW almost hit a pole and then did strike another car. The suspect operator started to walk away from the crash as officers arrived. The driver appeared intoxicated and admitted to consuming “Three large Mexican Lagers” before driving. The 24yo Bay Village man was field tested and arrested for OVI. He submitted a breath sample at the jail and was found to be over 2 and ½ times the legal limit. He was cited with OVI, Prohibited Breath Alcohol Content, Failure to Maintain Assured Clear Distance and open container. Minor injuries were reported after the crash.

Passed Out in Parking Lot

On 6/24/26 at about 8:45PM, officers on patrol noticed a man passed out laying with his head on the running board of a truck parked in the lot of the Red Roof Inn on Clemens Rd. They attempted to wake the man to check on his welfare. While the 33yo did revive, he was not making any sense and continued to drift in and out of consciousness. It appeared he was intoxicated on an unknown substance. Officers administered Narcan to the man who was then transported by the Westlake Fire Dept to the hospital for further treatment.

Improper Handling of a Firearm

On 6/25/26 at about 1:15AM, offices stopped a vehicle on I90 E/B in the area of Columbia for equipment violations. The registered owner of the minivan also had a felony warrant out for her arrest for aggravated possession of drugs. The driver, who was the registered owner, admitted that there was a gun locked up in the passenger compartment of the car. She complied when she was told to step from the driver’s seat and was placed under arrest. A loaded 9mm handgun was recovered from the vehicle. The 34yo Westlake woman was charged with Improper Handling of a firearm and resisting arrest for attempting to pull away from the officers as they were trying to handcuff her. Medina County confirmed their warrant and indicated that they would pick the suspect up at the county jail.

Stabbing

On 6/24/26 at approx. 9PM, officers responded to an apartment in the 29000 block of Detroit for a report of a stabbing. The reporting party indicated that her adult son had been stabbed in the chest by his significant other. Officers arrived and quickly got the victim out of the residence. Luckily, the wound which was caused by a kitchen knife, was superficial. The man was transported to UH St John Medical Center while the officers spoke with the suspect female. The 35yo Westlake resident was arrested and eventually charged with domestic violence and felonious assault. 2 juveniles had been in the apartment but were not directly involved with the altercation and were unharmed. The victim was treated and released from the emergency room.

Drug Use, No License

On 6/25/26 at about 9:45PM, officers stopped a vehicle on I90 E/B in the area of Columbia for equipment and moving violations. The officers noted signs of drug use in the vehicle. Neither the driver nor either of the two passengers had a valid driver’s license. The rear seat passenger was found to be in possession of psilocybin mushrooms. The Richmond Hts. 21yo was arrested and transported to jail to face a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Confused Senior Citizen

On 6/28/26 at approx. 10:30PM, an older citizen called WPD to ask for help. She had been at a festival in Rocky River and got “turned around” on her way home to Olmsted Township. She had a walker and could not get an RTA Para-transit until almost 1AM. She added that she had no one else to call and was stuck at a bus stop near UH St. John Medical Center. Officers were dispatched to help. They checked on the grateful woman’s welfare and gave her a ride home.

Erratic Driver

On 6/28/26 at about 1:30AM, an officer on patrol noticed a vehicle driving on Crocker in the area of Schwartz. The SUV was traveling well below the speed limit and drove directly through a red light at the intersection. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren while attempting to stop the Infinity. The vehicle continued to weave its way down Crocker Rd. It eventually stopped in the area of Monroe Trail. The man driving appeared intoxicated. He was ordered out of the car to further the investigation. The 42yo Westlake man just rolled up his window and sat in the car. The driver was escorted out of his driver’s seat and was placed under arrest before he could drive away to continue to endanger himself and the motoring public. He was transported to jail where he refused to submit a breath sample. The driver’s privileges to operate a vehicle were immediately suspended due to the refusal. He was cited with OVI, the red light violation and failure to comply with a lawful order and was later released to a sober party.

Riding on the Rims

On 6/30/26 at about 3AM, WPD received a call from a concerned citizen reporting that a white Chevy Impala was driving on I90 W/B passing Columbia. What drew the attention of the caller was that the vehicle was “riding on all rims” and was all over the roadway. An officer caught up with the car which was driving with only 1 tire inflated. Sparks were seen flying out from under the moving Chevy. A WPD officer stopped the car just after Crocker Rd. Reports note that the Impala was heavily damaged. The 33yo driver was talking on the phone as the officers attempted to speak with him. He said it was his mom and did not want to hang up with her. He appeared intoxicated and admitted to drinking tequila. The Cleveland resident added that “I didn’t even drink that much.” He could not explain what happened to his car that night. The driver was field tested and arrested for OVI. A loaded 9mm handgun was located in the car as well. The suspect was charged with OVI, not having a driver’s license and felony improper handling of a firearm. He refused a breath test.

Injured Goose

On 7/2/26 at about 4:00AM, a concerned caller reported that there was an injured goose on Clague Rd near Detroit Ave. An officer was dispatched and found that it appeared 2 geese had been struck by a vehicle. One was deceased and the other obviously injured. The injured waterfowl was collected and transported to the WPD kennel until the Lake Erie Nature and Science Center opened in the morning. The Westlake Animal Control Officer transported the patient to the facility the next morning.

Almost Defrauded

On 7/2/26 at approx. 3:30PM, an officer on patrol noticed an older gentleman sitting on a guardrail near a bus stop at Crocker and Hilliard. The man appeared to be having trouble in the heat so the officer stopped to check on him. The 75yo Cleveland man explained that in fact he did not feel well. He still had to take multiple buses to get back home. An ambulance was summoned to check the man out medically. While waiting for a response, the officer had the man sit in the WPD cruiser to cool down. The man explained that he had come out to Westlake to buy gift cards at the Apple Store “for a friend”. In further conversation, the man admitted that he did not really know the people instructing him to buy the gift cards. The officer educated the man about scams. Luckily, Apple Store employees did not allow the man to buy the gift cards and had also informed him he was being defrauded. The grateful man was transported to the hospital to be evaluated medically for heat related symptoms.

FLOCK Alert

On 7/3/26 at approx. 1:30PM, WPD received a FLOCK license plate reader alert on a vehicle passing through Clague Rd and Sperry Dr. The owner of the car had a felony warrant out of Cleveland PD for resisting an officer and failure to comply. Officers tracked the vehicle to Columbia and Detroit Rds where it was stopped. The 20yo male driver was the wanted person. He was arrested without incident and turned over to Cleveland PD to answer to his charges.

Kitten Save!

Nice Save! On 7/4/26 at about 1:30PM Officers Reyes and Inal had the save of the day when they were dispatched to a residence in Westlake on a report of meowing coming from deep within a drain pipe.  The resident reported hearing the kitten for 2 days but did not know what to do.  The officers were able to extract the kitty from its predicament.  The Kitten, which appeared to be unharmed, is resting comfortably in the Westlake kennel and is already slated to be picked up by a cat rescue until it is ready for adoption. **7/10/26 2PM update – the saved kitten has been adopted by a loving Westlake resident!!**

Propane Tank Fire

On 7/4/26 at around 4:15PM, officers responded to the report of a grill propane tank on fire near a home in the 1600 block of Settlers Reserve. WPD arrived before the fire department to see the resident using a garden hose to try to keep the flames from spreading to the home. Officers used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the flame which allowed for enough time to shut off the tank. No damage was reported to the home.

“A Party To Get To.”

On 7/4/26 at about 11:15PM, after the Westlake City fireworks display was over, there was a normal backup of traffic on Hilliard Bl. Vehicles exiting the parking lot of the Board of Education on Hilliard were waiting patiently to exit the lot to head home. One man was not as patient and exited a vehicle to yell at other motorists including making threats about having a gun. The suspect even yelled about having “a party to get to.” Callers were alarmed at the man’s threats along with the fact that his vehicle contained several kids. When he exited his vehicle to show off his ankle monitor while continuing verbal threats, they called for help. Rocky River and Westlake Officers stopped the suspect vehicle on Hilliard in Rocky River. The described man was called out of the passenger seat of the vehicle. He chose to grab a 1yo baby out of the car as he argued with officers about the incident. A 33yo woman and 2 other children remained in the vehicle. The officers eventually talked the man into coming back to them and was placed into custody as the officers safely removed the baby from his arms. The baby was returned to the rest of the family in the car. The suspect, a 34yo from Ravenna, was taken into custody and transported to jail. He was charged with aggravated menacing and endangering children. No firearm was located. The rest of the family was sent on their way after open bottles of Fireball liquor were recovered from the suspect’s seat. The Cuyahoga County Sheriffs Dept placed a hold on the subject due to being on their ankle monitor during this incident.

Unhappy Couple

On 7/8/26 at approx. 11:30AM, a woman called 911 from the WestSpring Inn. She screamed to the dispatcher that she was being attacked. Officers rushed to the motel to find a man packing up his vehicle. He indicated to the officers that he was just leaving adding that the woman had been antagonizing him. Both persons were interviewed separately. Both indicated that the fight was just verbal. The motel staff evicted the couple. Investigation revealed that the woman was in possession of suspected crack cocaine and a smoking pipe. She was arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. When asked about the illicit rocks, the 47yo, who’s last permanent address was in Lakewood, said that she was unaware that you were not allowed to use crack cocaine in the privacy of a hotel room.

Missing Juvenile

On 7/8/26 at about 9:15PM, officers stopped a vehicle on I90 W/B at the county line. They noted signs of drug use in the vehicle. The passenger, a 16yo out of Lorain, was found to be a missing juvenile as her parents filed a report with Lorain PD. She was transported to the Westlake PD to be reunited with her mom. An 18yo and 19yo were advised and sent on their way.

Waving a Machine Gun!

On 7/9/26 at approx. 5:15PM, WPD received 2 separate calls from passers by on Bradley Rd in the area of Mallard Cove. The motorists reported seeing a female waving around a rifle or “machine gun” while pacing around the residential sidewalk. They were alarmed because she was seen pointing the firearm at passing cars. Officers responded quickly but could not locate the suspect. Drones were deployed to check the area while the complainants were called to narrow down the search. The female was tracked down to a residence on Bradley Rd. Officers called out the residents who were cooperative. Investigation revealed that a 35yo at the home was having a mental health crises and was acting out. The firearm seen was actually a realistic looking pellet rifle. The woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Warrants were requested for misdemeanor inducing panic.

Identity Fraud

On 7/9/26 at approx. noon, WPD received a hold up alarm originating from a store in the 26000 block of Detroit Rd. As officers began to respond, the manager called to report that a man had just left the store after making a fraudulent transaction. The observant employees did write down a license plate of the get away vehicle. As officers searched for the suspect vehicle, it was learned that the customer had bought a couple of Garmin devices with multiple credit cards on his phone. Luckily the store management had recently been updated regarding frauds involving bad actors using stolen cards to purchase multiple Garman watches at a time. When the manager asked for an ID to match up the information on the credit cards to the customer, he said he had to go to his vehicle to retrieve it. The suspect did not come back with an ID but fled the scene. An observant North Olmsted officer spotted the suspect vehicle on Lorain Rd in their city. Although the suspect, a 28yo man from Rego Park, New York, did not want to talk about the transactions, he was found with credit cards in other people’s names. Detectives traced the cards to a couple in Brooklyn, NY who reported that the cards never reached their house and were most likely stolen out of the mail. The suspect was charged with felony identity fraud. Additional fraud related charges will be recommended to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury.

Tree Down

On June 14, 2026 at 3:00 pm, officers responded to the area of Wolf Road and Wood Park Road for a report of a downed tree. Upon arrival, the area was secured and temporarily blocked off to ensure public safety. The service department was notified and requested to respond for removal of the debris.

Wires Down

On June 14, 2026 at 3:07 pm, BVPD responded to the area of Bayfair Drive/Wolf Road regarding a report of a downed tree limb and utility wires. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that the wires were down, but not energized. The area was secured and taped off for safety. The resident was advised to contact the appropriate utility provider for repairs.

Tree in Roadway

On June 14, 2026 at 3:31 pm, BVPD received a call for a tree blocking the roadway in the area of Bruce Road and Upland Road. Upon arrival, responding units confirmed that live electrical wires were involved in the obstruction. The area was secured for safety, and appropriate utility service crews were requested to respond and clear the roadway.

Driving Under Suspension

On June 14, 2026 at 9:44 pm, a BVPD officer observed a traffic violation near Lake and the Rocky River Line. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was issued citations for Driving Under Suspension and Required Taillights. The owner of the vehicle, who possessed a valid driver’s license, took over driving of the vehicle. The 32-year-old Parma resident will face charges through the Rocky River Municipal Court.

Active Warrant

On June 16, 2026 at 11:41 am, Parma Hts advised they were out with an individual showing an active warrant through BVPD. BVPD confirmed the warrant. Male was turned over to BVPD to be conveyed back to BVPD jail where he was booked and held to see a judge.

Neighbor Dispute

On June 16, 2026 at 1:10 pm a BVPD officer responded to the area of Canterbury Road/Lake Road regarding a neighbor dispute. The caller reported a neighbor yelled at him while he was searching for his lost dog. Officers spoke with both parties and advised them to avoid further contact and leave each other alone. No further action was taken.

Amazon Truck Crash

On June 16, 2026 at 7:39 pm, Officers responded to the area of Wolf Road and Bracken Way for a motor vehicle crash involving an Amazon delivery vehicle. Upon investigation, the driver failed to place the van in park. While the driver was in the rear cargo area of the truck, the unattended vehicle rolled forward and struck a residence. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the home or the delivery driver. The incident resulted in property damage to the residence.

Packages Found

On June 17, 2026 at 8:40 am, A cyclist located multiple opened Amazon packages that had been left along the area between Fordham Road and Russell Road. The caller collected the items and turned them over to the Bay Village Police Department. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the packages were addressed to residents of the Beachcliff apartment complex in Rocky River. The recovered items were subsequently transferred to the Rocky River Police Department for follow-up.

Motorcycle Down

On June 19, 2026 at 8:30 pm, Metro Parks Police Department officers contacted the BVPD after observing a motorcyclist drop their motorcycle near the intersection of Huntmere Dr/Wolf. The officer checked on the individual’s welfare and, during their interaction, suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Metro Parks PD requested BVPD respond. The operator refused field sobriety and chemical testing and was subsequently placed under arrest for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (OVI). The male was transported to the Bay Village Police Department Jail for booking. He was offered the opportunity to provide a breath sample, but refused. The 43-year-old Bay Village resident is facing OVI-related charges through the Rocky River Municipal Court.

Man in Lake

On June 21, 2026 at 6:47 pm, Metroparks Police Department requested mutual aid for a report of a male who had fallen off rocks into the water, with lifeguards already on scene assisting the individual. BVPD and BVFD responded to assist. Upon arrival, Metroparks Police Department personnel were on scene and assumed command of the incident.

Hoverboard Found

On June 22, 2026 at 11:53 am, Bay Village Service Department contacted BVPD after locating a hoverboard at Bradley Park. An officer responded and took custody of the property for safekeeping. If your child has lost a hoverboard, it can be claimed at the Bay Village Police Department with proof of ownership.

Stolen Flowers

On June 24, 2026 at 12:16 pm, BVPD received a call from a resident on Millard Drive reporting that a hanging flower basket had been stolen from the front porch of the residence at approximately 6:00 a.m. Officers responded and reviewed the resident’s security camera footage of the incident. Using Flock cameras, officers were able to identify and track the suspect vehicle. An unmarked unit responded to the registered owner’s listed address and observed the stolen flower basket on the property. As a result of the investigation, a 46-year-old male and a 23-year-old female, both of Elyria, were charged with theft and criminal trespass. Charges will be filed through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Solicitor Ticketed

On June 25, 2026 at 12:37 pm, BVPD received a call regarding a solicitor in the area. Officers responded and located the individual near Osborn Road/Welshire Drive. The individual was issued a citation for solicitor’s permit required. The 21-year-old South Carolina resident will be facing charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Transportation of Marijuana

On June 26, 2026 at 10:00 am, BVPD conducted a traffic stop in the area of Bassett Road/Ednil. The driver was issued citations for traffic control device violation and seat belt. A probable cause search of the vehicle yielded marijuana, which was not confiscated. Both individuals were advised of the state’s new laws on transportation of marijuana. The two will be facing charges through Rocky River Municipal Court.

Man Off Cliff

On June 26, 2026 at 1:04 pm, BVPD and BVFD responded to the Bay Boat Club for a report of an individual who had fallen from the cliff. BVFD personnel were able to reach the male and provide medical assistance. The individual was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Capsized Sailboat

On June 27, 2026 at 8:16 pm, BVPD received a call from a resident reporting a capsized sailboat with two occupants in the water near the vessel. BVPD, BVFD, Westlake PD, and the Westshore Water Rescue Team responded to the area. Westlake PD deployed a drone, which confirmed that both individuals were wearing life jackets. One of the individuals was observed approximately 40 feet from the vessel. A BVFD member assigned to the Westshore Water Rescue Team entered the water with rescue equipment. Personnel aboard an ODNR Marine Patrol vessel made contact with both individuals. The U.S. Coast Guard and Cleveland FD were advised their response was no longer needed and were canceled. ODNR Marine Patrol safely towed the sailboat and both individuals back to the dock.
