Retailer Hosts a Very Merry Meijer Celebration at Cleveland Clinic Children’s and University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Advance of Mid-2019 Store Openings in Avon, Mentor and Stow
Meijer is hoping to make the holidays a little brighter for inpatient children unable to be at home with friends and family this season. On Tuesday, Dec. 18 Meijer hosted holiday events at both Cleveland Clinic Children’s and University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. In addition to delicious snacks and fun holiday crafts, patients and their siblings received toys donated by the retailer. In total, Meijer donated more than 500 toys to the hospitals.

The holidays events coincide with the Very Merry Meijer campaign. This is the fifth consecutive year Meijer is surprising customers at each of its 242 stores by paying for their entire cart brimming with gifts and groceries. Since Meijer doesn’t have a physical footprint in Northeast Ohio until 2019, the hospital holiday events are a way to start giving back to the area. Currently, Meijer has more than 40 Supercenters throughout Ohio, with the closest location to Cleveland in Sandusky. Meijer plans to open three Cleveland-area Supercenters, one in Avon, Mentor and Stow, in early spring.

“Nothing is better than seeing a child smile when opening a present. We’re excited to bring joy to children who are currently at Cleveland Clinic Children’s and UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital this holiday season,” said Ken Barclay, the Meijer Market Director whose region includes Northeast Ohio. “As a family-owned company, we value giving back to the community and demonstrating our commitment to this area. We’re grateful to start this partnership with two-world renowned hospitals systems and look forward to an ongoing relationship.”
Representatives from both hospitals were also in attendance to receive a check donation from Meijer executives.
