Following is Westlake Porter Public Library’s December 2019 calendar of events:

Saturday, December 7 (12-4 p.m.) Crafternoon — Help us honor Janet Ackerman with this day of crafting in her memory. Celebrate her love of our library by making a variety of crafts inspired by her using materials she donated. All ages. No registration required.

Saturdays, December 7 and 21 (2-3 p.m.) Brick Builders — Love those bricks? Bring your ideas and imagination! Lego® and Duplo® bricks provided. For ages 3-12. No registration required.

Saturday, December 7 (3:30-4 p.m.) Family Storytime — An interactive family storytime featuring books, rhymes, songs, movement, and a small craft. For families with children ages 2-6. Siblings welcome. No registration required.

Sunday, December 8 (2-3:30 p.m.) Boredom Busters! — Are you bored? Drop by the Storytime Room and join in the fun! We will have different activities available each month. All ages welcome! No registration necessary.

Sunday, December 8 (2-4 p.m.) 800+ Chess Club — A chance for those competing at an 800+ USCF Rating to work together on strategies, skills, and game play. If you’re a beginner, please attend our Chess Club on the last Sunday of the month. No registration required.

Sunday, December 8 (3-3:45 p.m.) Celebrate Christmas — Baldwin Wallace Community Arts School is excited to celebrate Christmas with Porter Library! Join us for this exciting holiday show sure to get you in the Christmas Spirit. Please register.

Monday, December 9 (2:30-4 p.m.) or Thursday, December 12 (7-8 p.m.) Calling Crafters: Holiday Ornament — During this session we will use a FREE library resource called Creativebug. Make a felt reindeer holiday ornament. All materials provided. Please register.

Mondays, December 9 and 16 (3:30-5:30 p.m.) Teen Lounge — Come to WPPL’s Teen Lounge on Monday afternoons! We have computers, video games, board games, snacks, and more! For grades 7-12 only. No registration required.

Mondays, December 9 and 16 (4-5 p.m. – Grades 3-8) and Thursdays, December 12 and 19 (4-5 p.m. – Grades 3-4) Code Club! — Learn how to build an app, design a video game, and change the world through code! Registration begins a week before each session. Please register for just one session per week.

Monday, December 9 (6:30-8 p.m.) Sibling Revelry Book Club — Books are on tap at Sibling Revelry! Our December title is The Ungrateful Refugee by Dina Nayeri. eBooks and eAudiobooks are available through Hoopla Digital (https://theclub.hoopladigital). Discussion held at Sibling Revelry, 29305 Clemens Road, Westlake. Outside food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome. No outside alcohol, please.

Monday, December 9 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Food for Less — Food is one of those things we have to buy and, of course, we want it to be as nutritious as possible. Learn some tricks on how to stay within budget and still have good meals and snacks. Please register.

Tuesday, December 10 (9:30-9:50 a.m.) Stories and Signs — Enjoy an interactive storytime while learning a few words in sign language! Siblings welcome. Ages 0-3. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 10 (Noon-2:30 p.m.) Crafty Adults — Feeling crafty? Join us and make a unique work of art! Create your own art based on the work of a famous artist or holiday. Specifically for adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities. No previous art experience necessary. No registration necessary.

Tuesday, December 10 (1-3 p.m.) Career: Holiday Networking Ideas — How can you use the Season of Joy to your advantage in your job search or transition? Who will you see during the holiday season that you don’t normally interact with that can make your career skills and interests known? Stop by for some holiday treats and learn some things to do differently this year to get your name and resume out there. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 10 and 17 (3:30-4:30 p.m.) Teen Writers Group — A weekly meet up for writers in grades 7-12. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 10 (5-5:45 p.m.) Tween Mug It! — Pizza! Winter Desserts! Who knew you could make these in a mug! Learn how to create quick and easy meals using just a few simple ingredients, a mug and a microwave. Grades 4-6. Please register.

Tuesday, December 10 (7-7:30 p.m.) Bedtime Stories — Put on your pajamas and join Mrs. K as we unwind at the end of the day with stories, songs, fingerplays and other activities. Ages 4-6. Siblings welcome. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 10 (7-8:30 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Discussion — In December we’ll discuss Furnishing Eternity by David Giffels.

Tuesday, December 10 (7-7:45 p.m.) TEEN Mug It! — Pizza! Winter Desserts! Who knew you could make these in a mug! Learn how to create quick and easy meals using just a few simple ingredients, a mug and a microwave. Grades 7-12. Please register.

Wednesdays, December 11 and 18 (9:30 & 10:15 a.m.) Let’s Sing and Dance! — Sing and move to the music with Miss Nancy! For children ages 2-6 with a caregiver. Please arrive early to receive a ticket.

Wednesdays, December 11 (3-4:30 p.m.) Tween Scene — Drop in after school to play board games and video games with your friends. Snacks will be provided. Grades 5-6. No registration necessary.

Wednesdays, December 11 and 18 (4-5:30 p.m.) and Thursdays, December 5, 12 and 19 (6:30-8 p.m.) Bow Wow Books — Stop by Youth Services to sign up for a 10-minute reading time with a reading therapy dog. Dogs will stay for 10 minutes past the last registered reader or 1.5 hours, whichever comes first. Sign-ups begin Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and Thursday at 6 p.m.

Thursdays, December 12 and 19 (6-6:45 p.m.) and Friday, December 27 (11-11:45 a.m.) Adapted Storytime — Children with varying learning styles and abilities learn together in a safe supportive environment where respect and appreciation for differences is encouraged. This 30-minute storytime followed by a time for socialization is designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime experience. Content is geared to ages 3-7 but all ages are welcome. Siblings may also attend but must register separately. Registration begins one week before each session.

Friday, December 13 (9:30 and 10:30 a.m.) and Saturday, December 14 (9:30 a.m.) Connecting for Kids’ Music Therapy & More^SM — This program is designed for families and their children (ages 0-6 years) who are struggling in an area of development. Join us for a hands-on program designed to teach families how to use music to improve their child’s motor, communication and social skills as well as behavior. This program is led by a Board-Certified Music Therapist. Siblings (ages 0-6 years) may also attend but must register separately. Saturday, December 14 (10-11 a.m.) Staying Safe Online — Learn some simple best practices to avoid scam emails, use strong passwords, and keep your computer safe. Please register.

Saturday, December 14 (11:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.) Elf Academy — Santa is extra busy this year and needs your help. Join in our reindeer games and train to become a “Certified Elf” by completing several elf-ercises. While supplies last. No registration necessary.

Saturday, December 14 (2-3 p.m.) 3D Printing Orientation — Want to use the library’s 3D printer? You’ll need to take this orientation class first. Learn the library’s policies about using it, how to download a 3D printable object file and how to prepare it for a great print. Please register.

Saturdays, December 14 and 28 (3-5 p.m.) Anime Club — A great club for anime and manga lovers! All otakus and newbies are welcome! Grades 7 to adult. No registration required.

Saturday, December 14 (3:30-5 p.m.) STEAMMaker Lab: Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow! — I love snow, but I get so cold outside in it. I found a way to make sow for us to build with inside that’s not cold. However, I locked the directions and ingredients in the box and now need help getting to them. Grades 3-5. Registration begins December 7.

Sunday, December 15 (2-3 p.m.) American Girl Doll Club: Kit Kittredge — Kit, a nine-year old growing up in the Great Depression, believes that a can-do attitude and good friends are worth more than anything money can buy. We’ll discuss the Great Depression, play games, and make a theme-related craft. Ages 6-11. Registration begins December 8.

Monday, December 16 (7-8:30 p.m.) Rust Belt Burlesque: The Softer Side of a Heavy Metal Town — Author Erin O’Brien will share the history of the unique performance art in Cleveland from the mid-1800s to the present day, with plenty of details from the historical center of Cleveland burlesque – the iconic Roxy Theater. The lively presentation will include vintage photos, as well as co-author Bob Perkoski’s dazzling images of modern burlies. Please register.

Monday, December 16 (7-8:30 p.m.) Maker Monday: Make Crafts Sparkle with a Silhouette Cameo — Learn to use our Silhouette Cameo to make sparkly holiday crafts! Bring a t-shirt, sweatshirt, tote bag or another piece of fabric to iron on rhinestone designs. Please register.

Tuesday, December 17 (1-3 p.m.) BINGO — It’s time to play BINGO! Adults with special needs will play BINGO for fun and socialization. Small prizes available. No cost to play. No BINGO experience necessary. All materials provided. Come early and bring your own lunch if you’d like. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 17 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Interactive Movie — Watch this holiday classic in a brand new way. Sing, snack and craft along with Buddy the elf as he learns his true identity. Grades 7-12. Registration required, but drop-ins welcome while supplies last. Registration begins December 10.

Wednesday, November 27 (2 p.m.) Wednesday Afternoon Book Discussion — The November selection is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Wednesday, December 18 (3:30-6 p.m.) Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Tournament: Teen — Battle it out in Super Smash Ultimate for Nintendo Switch to see who will take the top spot and reign as champion! Grades 7-12. No registration required.

Wednesday, December 18 (7-8 p.m.) 50 Years Later: Looking Back at the Summer of Love, Altamont and Woodstock — This year marks 50 years since Woodstock! Take a step backward in time to one of the biggest musical events in history! Please register.

Thursday, December 19 (4-4:45 p.m.) Cookie Decorating — Engage your child’s senses and encourage messy play while delighting in the fun and wonder of the season. For students with special needs ages 3-7 and their typical peers. If you have allergy or diet concerns please contact the Youth Services Department at 440-250-5471. Registration begins December 12.

Friday, December 20 (4-4:45 p.m.) Got Science? — Have you ever wondered how the police figure out a crime? This month we’ll figure out the clues to solve a crime. Grades 1 and 2. Registration begins December 13.

Saturday, December 21 (10 a.m.-4 p.m.) December Fun! — ‘Tis the season for fun! Join us as we make homemade crafts to enjoy! All ages. No registration required.

Saturday, December 21 (10:30 -11:30 a.m.) Pokemon Fun! — A fun morning of Pokemon themed play, prizes, and crafts! Ages 6-12. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 24 and Wednesday, December 25 Christmas Eve and Christimas Day: Library Closed.

Friday, December 27 (10 a.m.-Noon) Fiber Fanatics — A time for needlecrafters to share, solve problems, and show off.

Saturday, December 28 (2-4 p.m.) Carry Out Crafts — Stop by the Youth Services Department to see what our featured craft is this afternoon. We have all the supplies you’ll need to create something fantastic! No registration required.

Sunday, December 29 (2-4 p.m.) Chess Club — Hone your chess skills or learn how to play the game. Recommended for ages 6+, but all ages are welcome. If you have a chess set, please bring it with you. No registration necessary.

Monday, December 30 (2-4 p.m.) Sensory Friendly Movie — A sensory-friendly environment including more light, less sound, and the option to move around the room will help families enjoy this free movie screening. All ages. No registration required.

Tuesday, December 31 (11:15 a.m.-Noon) Countdown to Noon Family Storytime — Join us for a special New Year’s Eve family storytime celebrating our favorite stories, songs, and rhymes. We’ll make a simple craft and do our own early countdown to 12:00 (noon). Ages 3-5. Registration begins December 23.
