George Miller Named Community West Foundation Board Chairman

Community West Foundation Board Chair George Miller

George Miller has been on the Community West Foundation Board of Directors since 2015 but stepped into a leadership role as Chairman effective January of this year.

“Marty and I are starting our work together and we look forward to the coming year,” he said, referring to Community West Foundation’s new President and CEO, Martin Uhle, who also started in January.

In December, the Foundation held a Changing of the Guard ceremony where former Chairman of four years, Bill Oatey, passed the torch on to George.

George grew up in Garfield Heights and attended Western Reserve University for two years before serving three years in the United States Army Special Forces. He later completed his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Cleveland State University majoring in Accounting. He spent his career working with his father at their family-owned company 3-G Supply, a fastener wholesaler. In 2008, they sold the company and George retired early at age 60.

George has always been passionate about philanthropy. In fact, he served nine years on the Board of Directors at Seeds of Literacy, a local non-profit that helps adults learn to read and advance their education. He served as Chairman for four of those years and continues to volunteer as a tutor for the organization. George also served as Director for Evans Scholars from 2011-2016 which provides college scholarships to students who have worked as golf caddies during high school.

George and his wife, Pat, have been married for 47 years and live in Westlake. They are longtime members of Westwood Country Club where George currently serves as Vice President of the Board. The couple enjoys traveling and have been to Europe, South America and eastern-Asia over the years. They consistently head to Clearwater, Florida, where they own a home, to escape the winter months. George and Pat have two adult sons, Brian and Nick. Nick and his wife Johanna have two daughters, eight-year-old Grace and six-year-old Nora.

“I accepted the role of Chairman because our board is a truly outstanding group of individuals who have dedicated their talent and energy to serving our community,” George commented when asked about his new leadership role.

The mission of Community West Foundation is to advance the health and well-being of our community.   In 2019 alone, $4,143,842 in grants were awarded to 56 community agencies that serve the poor by providing food, shelter or other basic necessities; and supported fund-raising efforts at Fairview and Lutheran Hospitals. An additional $2,101,531 was given to other non-profits through Donor Advised and Agency Funds.
