Community West Foundation is dedicated to supporting organizations that provide the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter and medical care to the most needy in and around western Cuyahoga County. Here is a look at recent activity.

Homeless Jesus to be Displayed at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church

The renowned “Homeless Jesus” sculpture will be displayed at Prince of Peace, 28455 Center Ridge Rd, Westlake, from March 9 – May 4. All are invited to sit on the bench and consider the implications of this dramatic artistic statement. Donations of socks for homeless shelter residents will be collected. The statue is on loan from Community West Foundation.

The sculpture represents Jesus as a homeless person lying on a bench covered by a blanket with wounds in his feet.

The thought provoking piece of art is a visual representation of Matthew 25:40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Matthew’s words encourage us all to care for the least of our brothers and sisters in need.

“We continue to loan a sculpture called “Homeless Jesus” to organizations in our area as a reminder of what we value,” says the Foundation.

Visiting Our Homeless

As part of his onboarding, newly appointed Community West Foundation President and CEO Marty Uhle has visited homeless camps in Cleveland alongside some of the area’s most dedicated advocates for the homeless, Jim Schlect, Paul Sherlock and Peter Schindler, Community West Senior Program Officer. The group delivered supplies and care packages during their visit.

SocksPLUS: Meeting a Real Need in the Community

For thousands of Cleveland’s homeless, socks are a gift that’s never taken for granted. In fact, they are the item that’s most requested by anyone living outside.

Thank you to Rocky River Prebyterian Church, Stella Maris and Solon Middle School, the most recent participants in Community West Foundation’s campaign to help the homeless.
