Bay Resident Scammed for $10 Grand

Bay Village Police report a resident was the victim of a $10,000 scam ‘Grandparent Scam’ recently.

On 10/15/2021, at 0833 hrs, a resident in the 500 block of Brooke Lane claimed she was the victim of a scam. The day before she received a call from someone claiming to be her grandson. He claimed he was in legal trouble and needed $10,000 for court expenses. The victim withdrew the money from the bank and someone came to her house to pick up the cash. The next morning she received a call from someone claiming to be a lawyer for her grandson. The lawyer stated they needed an additional $10,000 for expenses and fines. The lawyer claimed he would call her back in the afternoon to make arraignments to have the money picked up. At this point she realized she was being scammed and contacted BVPD. When the lawyer called back in the afternoon he told her that she needed to now send the money to New Jersey, which she did not do. Police are investigating.

Large Drug Bust

On 10/13/2021, at 2101 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Eaton Way near Columbia for a traffic violation. After speaking with the 43 year old, male driver, officers had probable cause to search the vehicle. A search of the vehicle turned up a large amount of marijuana, Methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. The male, who claimed to be living out of his car, was arrested for various drug offenses. He will face charges at Rocky River Municipal Court.

Slumped Over the Wheel

On 10/13/2021, at 0339 hrs, a BVPD officer located a vehicle parked at the Dwyer Memorial Senior Center with a male driver slumped over the wheel. The officer was able to wake the 61 yoa driver. The male claimed he had made a Door Dash delivery earlier and was very tired, so he pulled into the park to take a nap. The male allowed officers to conduct a consent search of the vehicle. During the consent search, drugs were located. The Lorain resident was arrested for a drug law violation. He will face charges at Rocky River Municipal Court.

Suspicious Car

On 10/15/2021, at 2108 hrs, a resident in the 300 block of Pinewood called BVPD to report there had been an occupied vehicle parked in her driveway for over 30 minutes. The female operator kept getting in and out of the vehicle and had started the vehicle multiple times. Officers spoke with the operator who claimed her power steering went out, and she had pulled into the driveway to see what was wrong with her car. Officers had the driver pull her vehicle into the street and made arrangements for a tow.

Suspect Flees

On 10/16/2021, at 0222 hrs, a BVPD officer stopped a vehicle on Oakmoor at Lake Rd. for a traffic violation. Once stopped, the male driver exited the vehicle and defied the officer’s orders to remain in the vehicle. As the officer approached the driver, the driver fled the scene on foot. BVPD officers and a Westlake K9 officer searched the area but were unable to locate the male. The officer identified the driver as a 32 year old Lorain resident. Warrants for his arrest will be sought through RRMC.
