Running at the Ohio State Championships for the fifth time in program history last weekend, the Westlake High girls cross country team enjoyed several personal bests in taking 15th place at Ft. Obetz, led by sophomore’s Sarah Peer and Ellie Irwin’s All-Ohio performances.
Sarah crushed the previous WHS records for time (18:46, Peer, ’20) and place (Peer, 21st, ’20; Ponstingle, 21st, ’87), and broke the 18 minute mark for the third time this season, earning a spot on the podium with her 3rd place finish.
Ellie ran a new personal best time by more than 30 seconds, breaking 19 minutes for the first time in her career. In doing so, Ellie finished a strong 27th, earning All-Ohio honors with her finish.
Rounding out the solid team performance were junior co-captain Sydney Peer, sophomore Stephanie Nivellini and sophomores Christina Ware and Avery Douglas, followed close behind by rapidly improving freshman Maggie Hennessey. Congrats to all the Lady Demons!
