Thursday, September 1 and Monday, September 19 (1-7 p.m.) American Red Cross Bloodmobile

Fridays, September 2 and 30 (4-4:30 p.m.) Read It, Make It @ the Library – Make a craft based on a story that is read aloud. Grades PreK-1, siblings are welcome. Registration begins one week before each session.

Saturdays, September 3, 10 and 24 (10:30-11 a.m.) and Wednesdays, September 7, 14, 21 and 28 (7-7:30 p.m.) Family Storytime – Join us for rhymes, songs and play! For families with children ages 2-6. Siblings are welcome. Registration begins one week before each session.

Sunday, September 4 and Monday, September 5 Library Closed in observance of Labor Day

Tuesday, September 6 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Teen Craft Pick-Up – A take home craft kit for teens in grades 7-12. This month’s craft is a bubble tea kit. Registration begins August 30.

Tuesday, September 6 (4:30-5:15 p.m.) STEAM Club: Our Sun and Seasons – Join Mrs. K as we learn about our closest star, the sun. Discoveries will be made through hands-on experiments, active participation and a simple take home project. Grades 1-2. Registration begins August 30.

Tuesday, September 6 (7-8:30 p.m.) World at War Forum: Trivia Night – Come out and join us for a Trivia Night covering the conflicts of the first half of the 20th century. Please register.

Wednesday, September 7 (6-8:30 p.m.) HeartSaver CPR/AED – Get certified for adult, child, and infant CPR and AED. Class led by certified instructors from UH St. John Medical Center. Please visit https://uhems.org/event-search to register. Email account required. Participants under the age of 14 must have a parent or legal guardian in class. Wednesday, September 7 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Horror Film Club – Join us for another creepy classic from the Vault! New members are welcome, but children under 13 must be with an adult. Join us in person or stream on Watch2Gether.com. The link will be posted at 6 p.m. the day of the program. Please register.

Thursday, September 8 (2-3 p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Dr. Michele Borba – “Thrivers” (Virtual) – Join us online for a conversation with the bestselling author as she discusses her book “Thrivers: Surprising Reasons Why Some Kids Struggle and Others Thrive”. Streamed live. Please register.

Thursdays, September 8 and 22 (3:30-4:30 p.m.) Roblox Arcade – Love Roblox? Then join us in the Roblox Arcade! We have some private servers set up for Tweens in grades 4-6 to hang out with their friends and enjoy some of the most popular games via Zoom. Join us in person on online. Registration begins September 1.

Thursday, September 8 (7-8 p.m.) Thursday Night Book Discussion – I’d Give Anything by Marisa de los Santos. The group meets the second Thursday of odd months. Participants will need to obtain their own copies of the title. Please register.

Thursday, September 8 (7-8:30 p.m.) Local Author Visit with John Keyse-Walker – Join local writer John Keyse-Walker to discuss the inspiration behind his Teddy Creque Mystery Series and his newest novel, “Havana Highwire”. Book signing will follow. Please register.

Friday, September 9 (4-5 p.m.) Teddy Bear Picnic – You and your favorite stuffed animal are invited to a Teddy Bear Picnic! Join us for stories, songs, a craft, and a snack. Bring a blanket, we’ll bring the fun! In case of inclement weather, the event will be indoors. Ages 3-8. Registration begins September 2.

Saturday, September 10 (2-2:30 p.m.) Teen Craft: Handmade Jewelry (Post Earrings) – During this craft session teens in grades 7-12 will learn how to make their own post earrings. Registration begins September 3. Drop-ins are welcome but space is limited.

Sunday, September 11 (1-5 p.m.) 9/11 Remembrance – Visit Christina’s Corner in the Youth Services Department and add a leaf to our remembrance tree in memory of Christina Ryook.

Sunday, September 11 (2-4 p.m.) Hand Sewing for Literacy – Learn basic sewing skills and create a sewn project while listening to a story with sewing as its central theme. Hand sewing helps kids develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, self-confidence, patience and focus—skills used in reading and writing. Caregivers are encouraged to stay for the program to learn the sewing techniques and assist their child(ren). Younger siblings are welcome and a simple stitching project will be available for them. Grades 3-5. Registration begins September 4.

Mondays, September 12 and 26 (3:30-5:30 p.m.) Teen Lounge – Need a place to hang after school? Come to WPPL’s Teen Lounge on Monday afternoons! Video games, board games, snacks and more!

Monday, September 12 (6:30-8:30 p.m.) Indoor Movie Night – Enjoy a feature-length newly released DVD or favorite family classic! Call the library at 440-871-2600 for more information. All ages. Please register.

Monday, September 12 (7-8:30 p.m.) Maker Monday: Beginning Coding for Adults – Want to learn how to code? Find resources on how to start at this program. Registration begins September 5.

Tuesdays, September 13 and 27 (4:30-6 p.m.) Bow Wow Books – Stop by Youth Services to sign up for a 10-minute reading time with a therapy dog. Sign up begins at 4 p.m.

Tuesday, September 13 (7-8:30 p.m.) Tuesday Evening Book Club (In Person AND Virtual) – Join the WPPL Tuesday Evening Book Club in person or on Zoom to discuss The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. The discussion will be held in person and on Zoom simultaneously. Please register. If you register for the Zoom option you will receive a Zoom invitation and instructions by email.

Tuesday, September 13 (7-8:30 p.m.) Medical Advances During the Civil War – Join Suzanne Rusnak as she leads us through a discussion of medical and surgical advances made during the US Civil War. Please register.

Wednesday, September 14 (4-5 p.m.) Family Game Time – There’s a world of games to explore! Enjoy a game at the library. You can bring your own or use one of ours! Families can gather and have fun in an understanding and empathetic environment. This program is inclusive and is for those with disabilities and typical peers. Ages 3-12. Registration begins September 7.

Wednesday, September 14 (6-8:30 p.m.) First Aid & Stop the Bleed – Join us for a program which combines the classes First Aid and Stop the Bleed. Thursday, September 15 (10-11:30 a.m.) Computer Basics & Introduction to Northstar – Learn how to turn on a computer, use a mouse, go online, and access Northstar Digital Literacy for self-paced online learning. Registration begins September 8.

Thursday, September 15 (3-4:15 p.m.) Introduction to Proposal Writing – Are you new to proposal writing or want a quick refresher? If so, you don’t want to miss one of our most popular classes! This class will provide you with an overview of how to write a standard project proposal to a foundation. Please register.

Thursday, September 15 (6:30-7 p.m.) So Many Ways to Read Storytime – Have fun learning stories, rhymes, and movements in many languages and formats. Ages 3-7. Registration begins September 8.

Friday, September 16 (4-4:45 p.m.) Fun Science Friday: Our Sun and Seasons – Join Mrs. K as we learn about our closest star, the sun. Discoveries will be made through hands-on experiments, active participation and a simple take-home project. Ages 4-6, up to Kindergarten. Registration begins September 9.

Saturday, September 17 (1–4 p.m.) Community Welcome Fair – Welcoming Week culminates in this Fair, bringing together neighbors of all backgrounds and building strong connections and community. A variety of local culture groups and businesses will be here to share their stories, traditions and food. The Fair will feature a performance by the Adrija Dance Academy at 1 p.m. and an opportunity to visit and learn about different organizations including the North Coast Pandas, Rimis Indian Bakers n’ Grocers, Westlake Chinese School, West Cleveland Muslim Association and more from around the Cleveland Area. from 2-4 p.m. No registration necessary.

Sunday, September 18 (2-3 p.m.) Art Smarts – Explore works of a well-known artist and then use what you’ve seen to create an art piece of your own! Grades 3-6. Registration begins September 11.

Monday, September 19 – Monday, September 26 B is for Bear Craft Pick Up – Celebrate all kinds of bears with some fun crafts! Registration begins September 12.

Monday, September 19 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Tween Craft Pick-Up – A take home craft kit for grades 4-6. Registration begins September 12.

Monday, September 19 (10-10:30 a.m.) Music Monday – Develop pre-reading skills with music, movement and rhythm through stories, songs and rhymes. Ages 2-6. Registration begins September 12.

Monday, September 19 (1-2:30 p.m.) True Crime Book Club – This month’s title is Scoundrel: How a Convicted Murderer Persuaded the Women Who Loved Him, the Conservative Establishment, and the Courts to Set Him Free by Sarah Weinman This club is a great way to discover some new titles and some classics of True Crime. Please register.

Monday, September 19 (1-2:30 p.m.) Amazing Adults – Enjoy some crafts, songs, simple fitness and fun! For adults with disabilities. Registration begins September 12.

Tuesday, September 20 (10-11:30 a.m.) Microsoft Excel & Introduction to Northstar – Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel, and how to access Northstar Digital Literacy for self-paced online learning. Registration begins September 13.

Tuesday, September 20 (2-3 p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Simon Winchester – Join us online for a conversation with prolific British-American writer, journalist, and consummate adventurer Simon Winchester. Winchester is the author of The Professor and the Madman. Streamed live. Please register.

Tuesday, September 20 (7-8 p.m.) Young Adult Book Club (In Person and Virtual) – Join us on the third Tuesday of the month for a discussion of a Young Adult book. Copies will be available at the Youth Services desk starting one month before the program date. This program will be in person and on Zoom simultaneously. This month’s title is Every Day by David Levithan. Please register.

Wednesday, September 21 (2-3 p.m.): Wednesday Afternoon Book Discussion – The Wednesday Book Group meets the third Wednesday of each month. A limited number of books are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk. This month’s title is Raft of Stars by Andrew J. Graff. Please register.

Wednesday, September 21 (7-8 p.m.) Adult Creative Writing Group – Join us for an hour of creative writing prompts to inspire you to start and keep writing. Creativity is more than putting pen to paper. It’s about breaking away and trying something new! Registration begins August 31.

Thursday, September 22 (6:30-7:15 p.m.) and Friday, September 30 (11-11:45 a.m.) Adapted Storytime – Join us for this storytime designed for children who may not be successful in a typical storytime. Content is geared toward ages 3-7. Registration begins one week before each session.

Friday, September 23 (4-5 p.m.) Brick Builders – Do you love Legos^©? Then bring your ideas and imagination to Brick Builders! Bricks provided. No registration required, but room capacity is limited. First come, first served. Ages 5-12.

Saturday, September 24 (10:30 a.m.-Noon) Medicare: Open Enrollment Information – Medicare Open Enrollment is October 15 – December 7. Join us for a presentation on Medicare with OSHIIP, Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program, to learn the ins and outs of Medicare. OSHIIP volunteer counselor Jim Langan will discuss your Medicare coverage options. Registration begins August 24.

Saturday, September 24 (2-3:30 p.m.) 3D Printing Orientation – In order to use the library’s 3D printer, you’ll need to take this orientation first. Learn library policies about using it, how to download a 3D-printable object, and how to prepare it for a great print. Registration begins September 17.

Sunday, September 25 (2-3 p.m.) Come Play With Me – An open playtime for children ages 2-5 with a caring adult. Siblings welcome! No registration required but room capacity is limited. First come, first served.

Monday, September 26 (6-8 p.m.) How to Overcome Depression Naturally – Learn from a Certified Herbalist how to shine a posit5ive light on depression by applying self-care techniques with herbal and nutritional supplements. Registration begins September 19.

Tuesday, September 27 (4- p.m.) Virtual Author Talk: Hernan Diaz – Join us online for an afternoon with Pulitzer Prize finalist and PEN/Faulkner Award winner Hernan Diaz, author of In the Distance and Trust. Streamed live. Please register.

Wednesday, September 28 (9 a.m.-9 p.m.) Discovery Box (Sign-Up) – For Teens in grades 7-12. Register for WPPL’s personalized subscription box service by September 28. Here’s how it works: 1. Register 2. Fill out a brief survey. 3. Based on your answers, we’ll prepare a personalized Discovery Box that is catered to your specific taste. 4. Pick up your Discovery Box starting October 5.

Wednesday, September 28 (2-3:30 p.m.) OR Thursday, September 29 (7-8:30 p.m.) Hello Fall Sign Craft – Welcome the season with a rustic wooden sign featuring a felt leaf wreath. This project requires painting, wire wrapping and using a glue gun. Please choose one session. Registration begins one week before each.

Friday, September 30 (1-3 p.m.) Art Walk Reception – Come and experience the nature photography featured in our gallery space and meet the artists! During the summer, persons with disabilities had the opportunity to explore nature and share their perspective of the world through photography as part of a series of Art Walk programs. The photography on display in the library the entire month of September is the outcome of our Art Walk programs. We are grateful to the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities for providing the materials and a facilitator for this program through a generous grant opportunity. No registration necessary.
