Bay Village Schools Receives 5-Star Overall Rating on State Report Card

On September 14, 2023, the Ohio Department of Education released the 2022-23 State Report Card results for the more than 607 districts in the state. Bay Village City School District received an overall five-star rating on the report card. Five stars is the highest possible rating a district can achieve. (Editor’s Note: A complete ranking of Ohio’s public school districts by Performance Index score can be found here. This list was released on September 17, 2023.)

The State Report Card includes performance information provided by schools and districts including academic, financial, and opportunity to learn data. This data is then combined into six components that receive star ratings to indicate the level of performance for the school and district.

Components include…

Achievement – This component represents whether student performance on state tests met established thresholds and how well students performed on tests overall. Bay Village Schools received five stars and significantly exceeds state standards in academic achievement.

Progress – This component looks closely at the growth all students are making based on their past performances. Bay Village Schools received four stars and shows significant evidence that the district exceeded student growth expectations.

Gap Closing – This component is a measure of the reduction in educational gaps for student subgroups. Bay Village Schools received five stars and significantly exceeds state standards in closing educational gaps.

Graduation – This component is a measure of the four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate and the five-year adjusted cohort graduation rate. Bay Village Schools received five stars and significantly exceeds state standards in graduation rates.

Early Literacy – This component is a measure of reading improvement and proficiency for students in kindergarten through third grade. Bay Village Schools received five stars and significantly exceeds state standards in early literacy (K-3).

“This is a success to be celebrated by all,” said Bay Village Schools Superintendent Scot Prebles. “We are especially proud that each of our buildings improved and that our Early Literacy component increased by more than 20%. We congratulate our students and staff.”

“While the State Report Card is not fully reflective of all the great things happening in our schools every day, it is great to validate the hard work of our staff and students and support from our families and community,” said Robert Hoon, Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “The district’s success demonstrates that our students have the best learning experience available.”

“We are encouraged by our performance, but readily acknowledge that we have opportunities for continued improvement,” Hoon added.
