The Buckle Up Bowl is a student-led competition that empowers students to impact the driving habits of their classmates, friends, and family.
The Lorain County Safe Communities Coalition recognized Avon High School for their most creative campaign and highlighted their efforts last Thursday.
The award was presented at the Avon Police Station where officer Patrick Sullivan accepted the honor.
Students competed for most improved seat belt rate, most creative campaign, and best buckled high school in Lorain County.
Nine Lorain County high schools participated in the Buckle Up Bowl to hone safe driving behaviors; including Avon, Avon Lake, Columbia, Firelands, Keystone, Marion L. Steele, Midview, Oberlin and Wellington.
The coalition recognized the winners, the Avon Police Department discussed local seatbelt safety statistics, and Natalie Sokolowski, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) advisor shared details of the organization’s successful Buckle Up campaign.
The event was coordinated by the Lorain County Safe Communities Coalition, conducted through Lorain County Public Health.
