Avon Heritage Elementary School’s Annual Science Night March 8

Celebrate all things science during Avon Heritage Elementary School’s 19th annual Science Night March 8 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Heritage Elementary School, 35575 Detroit Road (both South and North campuses will have exhibits). More than 45 presenters will be at the event.

During Science Night March 8, exhibits will be set up throughout the schools providing students, parents and the community an up-close look into the world of science.

“Science Night is a special event,” said Amy Rottman, fifth-grade science teacher. “It generates excitement for science throughout the student population at a celebrity level.  The students talk about it for weeks in advance and plot their favorite presenters to visit from past years, and look forward to new presenters as well.  It’s not every day you see kids so enthusiastic about academics.  The atmosphere is electric… I love it! We like to include a variety of presenters to spark interest in every student. Exposure to different science areas is also a key factor. Many students do not realize how many different areas of science play out in the real world, or how many jobs/careers are affected by science. We especially love that Science Night emphasizes the areas of physical and earth science; areas that many students have not been overly exposed to yet in school. It really helps make connections when we cover these topics in our science classes.”

Teachers Stephanie Reichert and Sara Armagno also co-coordinate the events which are made possible through grants from the Avon Schools Educational Endowment Fund and are sponsored by the Avon Heritage Boosters.
