Avon High School Senior Earns Art Honors

Avon High School senior Mallory Stowe’s “Jamie” painting has won a place in the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Show. This show is highly selective, as only 300 artworks from Ohio high school students are selected to be part of this show. Her work will be on display at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus from April 22-May 17. www.govart.org

According to Stowe, 17, the inspiration behind her painting came from the Cleveland Institute of Art’s Pre-College Program and one of the projects the class experimented with was different lighting. She used a girl in the class, named Jamie, as a model for her painting.

But wait, there is more…. Stowe has also earned a National Medal for the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her painting, “Self Portrait.” National medal winners are identified by panels of creative professionals as the most talented young artists and writers in the nation. This year, nearly 350,000 works of art and writing were submitted. Less than 1% are recognized at the national level. Mallory has been invited to attend a recognition ceremony at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in June. Her work will be put on exhibit in New York City at Parsons The New School of Design or Pratt Institute for the summer of 2018. It will then be put into a 2018-2019 Art.Write.Now.Tour with other national winners. This tour will travel and be displayed at various locations around the country.

Congratulations Mallory Stowe!

After graduation, she plans to attend The Ohio State University. “I plan on continuing art, alongside my humanity studies hoping to find an intersection that aids people,” she said.
