Westlake Police: Something Didn’t Smell Right

Something didn’t smell right when a Westlake Police Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at Crocker and Detroit Roads and observed the driver frantically discharging a can of air deodorizer.

Suspicions were confirmed as the officer approached the vehicle only to notice that the driver’s fabreeze moment wasn’t enough to cover the smell of weed.

 

Upon searching the car, officers located suspected marijuana, narcotic pills, and drug paraphernalia including several Pepsi Cans fashioned to smoke marijuana.  The 24 year old from North Ridgeville was arrested and transported to the Westlake City Jail on charges of felony and misdemeanor drug and paraphernalia possession.

Drunk Driver Blows 3 ½ Times Legal Limit!

On Sat 3/24 at 1:16 AM a Westlake Police Officer saw a vehicle drift out of its lane and strike a curb.  The SUV was stopped as it pulled into Crocker Park. The male driver exhibited signs of intoxication but admitted to only drinking “maybe 3 beers.”  The 38 year old from Avon failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI. What is remarkable was that the male tested over 3 ½ times the legal limit of alcohol on his breath.  The male’s car was impounded and he was given a court date in Rocky River Municipal Court.

Pizza Shop Break-In

On Sunday 3/25/18 at approx. 8:13AM, officers responded to Pizza By Robert at the corner of Bradley and Detroit Rds.  The owner had arrived to discover that the business had been broken into

overnight. Officers searched the area but could not locate any suspects.  The owner reported that items were missing from the business. Evidence was collected and the detective bureau is following up on leads.

Nervous Driver Leads to Arrest

On 3/26/18 at approx. 9:32AM, an officer stopped a vehicle on I90 for a traffic violation.  The operator and passenger identified themselves to the officer but both seemed overly nervous.  When their personal information did not check out, they were separated. Although the operator said that the passenger was his uncle, he did not know who he was.  When the investigation was complete and the occupants were correctly identified, the passenger was arrested for his outstanding felony warrants for sexual assault.  The driver was arrested for Obstructing Justice, another felony charge that could have been avoided with honesty.

Crystal Meth Found in Hotel Bust

On 3/28/18 at approx. 7AM, an officer discovered that a U-Haul parked in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn on Clemens was entered as stolen out of Cleveland.  Investigation revealed that the male who had possessed the stolen truck was staying in one of the hotel rooms. Upon speaking with the 2 males in the identified room, drugs and paraphernalia were seen scattered about.  One of the men, a 32yo from Euclid was identified in the Cleveland PD report as the person who rented the truck but never returned it. He was charged with felony receiving stolen property. Both the Euclid suspect and a 20yo from Avon Lake were charged with possession of drugs for the suspected Crystal Methamphetamine and smoking pipes located in the room.

Dazed & Confused     

On 3/30/18 at approx. 3:00AM, WPD received complaints of a person parked in a vehicle in a parking lot in the area of Cahoon and Detroit Rds.  People took notice because the operator of the car was continually sounding the horn. Officers arrived and located a male who seemed confused.  He said that he was waiting for his cousin but no other person ever showed up. The 25yo from North Ridgeville appeared to be intoxicated. He failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for having physical control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated.  He later submitted to a breath test and was found to be over 2 times the legal limit. His vehicle was impounded and he now has a court date at Rocky River Muny Court.
