Mercy Health – Lorain has officially broken ground on a brand new, 30,000 square foot state-of-the-art medical center on Oak Point Road; northeast of the Deerfield Development. The new Center will offer comprehensive and coordinated care that includes primary and specialty care, walk-in services as well as occupational health.
“We, as an organization, continue to be responsive to the needs of the communities we serve.”, said Edwin Oley, Chief Executive Officer for Mercy Health. “We have reached capacity in our Amherst Primary Care office which has led us to expand into a space that allows us to continue to serve the Amherst and Lorain communities, such as we do now.” He said.
Designed as the “practice of the future”, the medical center will not only be equipped with the latest technologies for patient care, but will include convenient e check-in kiosks and telemedicine services. Helping to deliver high-quality care where and when the patient needs it.
Additionally, Mercy Health Walk-in Care will offer a cost-effective, convenient service for many non-emergent illnesses such as colds, sore throats, allergies and more. This model of care has gained much notoriety for its easy access in Avon, Elyria, Lorain and Oberlin where current Walk-In sites exist. The new Oak Point Medical Center will also serve as an access point for sport and school physicals and vaccinations.

“Walk-in services provide the community with an alternative if their physician should not be available or even closed. With extended hours on the weekdays and hours on Saturday and Sunday, Mercy Health- Walk-in Care offers a shorter wait time and convenient access when you need to care for yourself and your family.” said Oley.
Building a healthier community, also means creating a healthy landscape and the new facility will remain meticulously maintained to match the environment the Oak Point residents have spent much time sustaining. Additionally, the new center will bring jobs to the region and support economic growth. Mercy anticipates that this new building will support the city of Lorain with more than 75 jobs.
The development of this new center is supported by a donation from the Bitar Family to the Mercy Foundation of Lorain County. As an influential obstetrician/gynecologist in Lorain County, Dr. Bitar dedicated his life to caring for women’s health. He and his wife Sandra have been leaders in our community for years both through their expertise and philanthropy.
“The Bitar Family have been true partners for our Health System and Foundation.” said Scott Pember, President of Mercy Foundation of Lorain County. “With financial support from families, like the Bitar’s, the Foundation is able to provide innovative solutions to build healthier communities and make health care more accessible.”
Today’s ground-breaking symbolizes Mercy Health’s commitment to building a healthier Lorain county. Oak Point Medical Center is scheduled to open Fall 2018.
