Bay Village Community Theater Presents “Over the River and Through the Woods”

May 4-5, 8 p.m. and May 6, 3 p.m. Nick, a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersery lands his dream job – in Seattle. The news doesn’t set well with his Italian grandparents who scheme to keep Nick home in this hilarious family comedy by Joe DiPietro.

Community Services: Retirement 101 Series Continues

Retirement is a big decision, and one that takes planning if you are to retire successfully. Finances, Social Security, Medicare and what to do with all that free time are some of the biggest issues you need to think about.

To help those thinking about retirement, the Bay Village Senior Center is presenting the remaining 4 sessions of our Retirement 101 series in May:

Managing Retirement Plan Assets: Informed Retirement Decisions Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m.

This workshop is for those nearing retirement and are considering how their employer-based retirement plans will contribute to their income in retirement. Some audience members may be uncertain or unaware of how to build up retirement plan assets or roll over retirement plan assets. Decisions they make about how and when to use their retirement plan assets can have a long-term impact on their retirement paycheck.

So You’ve Retired. Now What? – Tuesday, May 15, from 5 – 8 p.m.

This session will focus on the personal fulfillment of the new retiree. At 6 pm there will be a panel discussion with retirees who are either volunteering and/or went back to work. There will also be a Volunteer Fair with many organizations represented that offer a variety of volunteer opportunities.

Program: “Life of Eleanor Roosevelt” – A portrayal of Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, an American politician, diplomat and activist. Eleanor Roosevelt was the longest-serving First Lady of the United States from March 1933 to April 1945 during her husband President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s four terms in office. She served as the United States delegate to the United Nations, chaired the UN Commission on Human Rights and oversaw the drafting of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mrs. Roosevelt later chaired President Kennedy’s Presidential Commission on the Status of Women. She was the first presidential spouse to hold press conferences, write a daily newspaper column, write a monthly magazine column, host a weekly radio show and speak at a national convention. She was regarded as one of the most esteemed women in the world and called “the object of almost universal respect” in her New York Times obituary.

TRIKE & BIKE: To benefit VeloSano Kids. All ages of younger riders are included, with a tot lot loop, and a one mile loop. 100% of all dollars raised by the Junior Riders aged 3-12 from this ride will directly benefit pediatric cancer research at Cleveland Clinic Children’s.

According to Cleveland Clinic child psychiatrist Dr. Joseph Austermann, children benefit from activities that allow them to give back or help others. They learn empathy, are much less likely to bully, and do better and go further academically.

Lake Erie Nature & Science Center ~ Family Fishing Day

Sunday, May 20 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon. Here’s your chance to introduce the family to fishing! Learn about the basics at the Center: equipment, how to cast, where to fish and what kind of fish you’ll catch. Then head to Lake Erie to throw your line in the water. All equipment will be provided.

Adults and teens (ages 16 & up) who wish to fish must possess a valid fishing license. One adult must accompany every 2 children registered for this program. For families with children ages 5+

Food Truck Friday Season Begins

Friday, May 25 from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Sauced Wood Fired Pizza and Sweet! The Mobile Cupcakery trucks will be here next to City Hall, so plan to stop by for lunch and dessert! Why not take some cupcakes home with you?

Join us again every Friday from May 25 – September 14 for a great lunch and a sweet treat. This year we’ve added a sweets truck to our Friday Food Truck schedule!

There’s ample parking available and picnic tables are set up for dining al fresco. In case of inclement weather, trucks will be parked near the front entrance canopy at the Dwyer Sr. Center. You are welcome to take your lunch inside to eat.

Each participating food truck makes a donation to the Community Service’s Dwyer Emergency Fund, helping residents in need. Last year over $1,000 was donated to the fund!

Pre-Registration: 11 & Older – $25, Children 10 & Under – $10. All mailed entries must be received by Wednesday, May 23, 2018. Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony

Monday, May 28 will be the annual Memorial Day Parade and formal observances to honor those that gave their life to our country and those that have served our country to support the freedoms we all enjoy everyday. All Veterans are welcomed to join the American Legion, VFW, and VVA to march behind these organizations in the parade to be recognized.

The parade will step off at about 8:45 a.m. from Huntington Park and march west on Lake Rd to the Lakeview Cemetery for services and recognition of the city founders that served early for our country. The parade will reform on Lake Rd and march east to Cahoon Rd and turn south to end at the Gazebo. Community leaders and some local honorees will be recognized at the Gazebo ceremony. A 21 gun salute, taps, and patriotic music will be part of the ceremony to honor our local Heroes and current Veterans in our community.

All are invited to line Lake and Cahoon Rd to recognize the veterans, and enjoy the BHS Band, First Responders, and Scouts. Please remember that this is a solemn occasion and we request that you provide due respect for the event.

This is a great American tradition, and a great way to start your holiday.
