Irene Eller Turns 100 Years Old

The Belvedere of Westlake celebrated one of their residents 100th birthday last week. Irene Eller turned 100 on May 28, 2018.

Irene was born on the west side of Cleveland. Her parents had immigrated from Hungary. When Irene was a young woman, she was babysitting next door to another family who had a son named Louis. “Over the back fence” they met and started to talk and soon married at St. Emerick’s church. They then moved to Louis’s childhood home on West 83rd street, where they stayed and raised their 3 children. Irene was a great mother who sewed all her daughters clothes and was a great cook and baker……especially her Chicken Paprikash and Nut & Poppy Seed Rolls. After the kids grew a little older, Irene went to work at Sears at the candy counter. Later, she was a teller at St. Coleman’s credit Union where she worked well into her mid-80’s.

At the age of 90, Irene and her husband moved to Independent living in Westlake. A few years later, when he passed, she chose the Belvedere Assisted living, which she considers her home.

Her daughter, Trudy, says the Belvedere is a perfect arrangement for her mother. “She is so well taken care of and she could bring her favorite things with her when she moved in. She loves it here.”

Irene enjoyed the 100th party and even sang the words to “Goodnight Irene” on the microphone. The residents sang to her and toasted her to “An Incredible Journey.”
