Fairview Park Police report that a senior citizen spilled heroin onto the counter of an ice cream shop
July 3, 2020 Possession of Heroin 22004 Lorain Rd 1820 hrs
Police were called to a local ice cream shop in reference to a man acting “strangely” and who spilled a brown powder onto the counter when buying ice cream. Arriving officers spoke with the man, who almost immediately tossed a folded piece of paper into the trash. While one officer continued speaking with the man, the other retrieved the paper, and upon unfolding it, found what appeared to be powdered heroin inside. Upon being questioned, the male admitted to being a relapsed addict, and that it was indeed heroin in the packet. The 69 year old N Olmsted man was arrested on Possession of Heroin charges, processed, and later released on bond. The suspected Heroin will be sent to BCI for analysis.
Fowl Play
July 1, 2020 Animal Offense 21064 Mastick Rd 1423 hrs
Police received a complaint, through Council, of a resident on Mastick raising chickens in the backyard. Fowl are prohibited in the City. This was the fourth complaint in three years. Each time the resident claimed he was just watching the birds for a friend, and would remove them. On the last incident, in March 2020, he claimed to have relocated them to a farm in N Olmsted.
In the recent case, the officer observed a coop, and from a neighbor’s yard, took a video of the chickens. When able to reach the homeowner, he initially claimed the chickens were gone, until mention was made of the viewing and recording of same by the officer. He was cited for Certain Animals Prohibited and told each further day of violation would result in another citation.
Fraud
June 29 2020 Fraud 4154 W 210 St
A resident called police reporting being the victim of a fraud/scam. He was contacted by someone purporting to be an FBI agent, and that he had warrants for his arrest. The victim was told to send money via an app to prevent this from happening, and to install monitoring software on his phone so they could verify the transfer. The victim did this, but upon speaking with his father, realized it was probably a scam. He contacted the app company to stop the transfer, and was told that he must send money to stop it. He did this also, and only after being told to also go to Target to get gift cards, did he realize that this was also a scam. To date, the victim is out several thousand dollars. A report has been taken, but none of the phone numbers obtained are valid, and it is likely it was instigated from overseas.

June 29, 2020 Criminal Mischief Morton Park 2123 hrs
Police were called about two 13-14 year old girls spray painting trees and grass in Morton Park. Officers checked the area, but did not locate the culprits. Silver paint was sprayed in the shape of male genitalia, along with the letters BLM, and some smiley faces. No further information on suspects, invest continuing.
June 30, 2020 Pedestrian MVA 20455 Lorain Rd 1315 hrs.
Police responded to a reported car vs pedestrian accident at the driveway access of a medical office building. Officers found that the car driver was pulling out to exit the lot, failing to stop before entering the sidewalk and striking a man in a wheelchair. The 76 year old Fairview man suffered damage to his foot and to the wheel chair, and was taken to Fairview Hospital for treatment.
July 1, 2020 I 480 E/B Traffic Offense/Fleeing – Eluding 1527 hrs
An officer on a traffic detail clocked a car E/B 480 at 83 mph in a construction zone. He attempted to pull the car over, and initially it appeared that it would do so. The car then suddenly sped away, weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. Due to the dangers with traffic volume and the construction area, the pursuit of the vehicle was terminated. A plate of the vehicle had been obtained by the officer, and he got a look at the occupants. Invest continuing.
July 2, 2020 Suspicious Person Brookpark Rd/W 220 St 0822 hrs
An officer stopped to check on a male in the area of Brookpark/W 220 that appeared lost and unsteady on his feet. The male was found to be highly intoxicated and lived on a nearby street. His father was contacted to take responsibility for him. The 59 year old Fairview Park man was cited for Intoxication and turned over to his father. An hour earlier, officers had been called by a motorist about a male who was looking over the bridge, but the male was not located at that time and may be the same man as in this call.
JJuly 6, 2020 Stolen Vehicle/Fleeing-Eluding Story/Lorain Rd 0315 hrs
Police received a stolen vehicle hit from the License Plate Reader camera at Story/Lorain Rd. The vehicle was an entered stolen from Lakewood PD. Officers responded, and initially did not locate the suspect vehicle. At 0329 hrs, one of the officers observed the car turning east on Lorain from Story Rd. He tried to stop the vehicle, but it rapidly accelerated to 90+ mph as it crossed the bridge into Cleveland. Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was terminated. It is possible that the occupants of the vehicle were responsible for two Theft from Vehicle incidents from the nearby Coffinberry area, which occurred in close time proximity to this pursuit.
4th of July weekend
Over the holiday weekend, our PD responded to 18 fireworks complaints. Fortunately, no one was injured and there were no fires due to the explosives and the dry, hot weather.
