An alternative rock band featuring three Rocky River High School students beat out 51 high school bands to make the finals in the 2018 Tri-C High School Rock-Off.

Rocky River senior and lead guitar William Ridzon, junior and vocalist Cameron Morris and senior and bass guitarist Joe Greenfield, along with Bay Village High School junior and drummer Auden Stevenson, make up Filler, which won the RRHS Talent Show the week before. Filler is one of 12 finalists in the Rock-Off Final Exam competition that will take place at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.

The band was one of only three selected from the preliminary round on Feb. 3 to move on to the finals. Filler was up against bands from Ohio, Michigan, New York, Pennsylania and Kentucky. They played a four-song set covering “She’s Not There” by Carlos Santana, “Paranoid” by Black Sabbath and “Victorious” by Wolfmother, as well as performing an original song, “Sunset.”

The top band or artist will receive a $1,000 cash prize and $250 for their high school music program, along with opportunities to record and perform. Second prize is $250 cash and $100 for their school. Third place is $100 cash.
