Douglas Sherlock, MD, board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center, has achieved accreditation as a Master Surgeon in Minimally Invasive Gynecology by Surgical Review Corporation (SRC).
This designation distinguishes Dr. Sherlock as a provider of the highest quality of care to patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation. Currently, he is the only obstetrician-gynecologist in Northeast Ohio to attain this accreditation.
Minimally invasive surgeries (as compared to traditional “open” surgeries) have become the standard of care over the past decade for certain gynecologic conditions. Because of their less-invasive nature, minimally invasive procedures enable patients to heal more quickly and offer a lower risk of complications.
Master Surgeons in Minimally Invasive Gynecology have served as the primary surgeon in more than 150 minimally invasive gynecology procedures in their lifetime, and perform at least 50 procedures annually. To attain this designation, Dr. Sherlock underwent a rigorous review of all aspects of his practice by a panel of independent reviewers in the field of obstetrics and gynecology.
“It is a great privilege to provide high-level minimally invasive surgical care in the communities on the west side of Cleveland,” said Dr. Sherlock. “The vast majority of surgical solutions for fibroids, bleeding and pelvic pain are completed with the same day surgery, and small cosmetic incisions allow for rapid healing and low risk of complications.”
Dr. Sherlock has been with UH Elyria Medical Center since August 2015. He received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in 2010 and completed a fellowship at UH Cleveland Medical Center in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery in 2015. He is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Sherlock sees patients in Suite 218 of the Gates Medical Building on the UH Elyria Medical Center campus and also in Suite 203 at UH Avon Health Center.
