Community West Foundation Grantee Spotlight: The Lantern Center for Recovery

The Lantern Center for Recovery is a 501(c)3 non-profit established in 2010 and provides free long-term residential care for men that suffer from substance use disorders. Addiction is powerful, and it is relentless, but it can be treated.

Awareness, education and readily available resources are critical for rehabilitation. Because drug and alcohol addicted individuals may be uncertain about entering treatment, taking advantage of available resources the moment people are ready for care is critical. The Lantern provides our community with these resources by acting as a safety-net, offering care for men that would otherwise be unable to access our public health system.

The Lantern Center for Recovery’s mission is to provide quality sober living to chemically dependent men and to educate & assist people with recovery from drug and alcohol addiction. The Lantern’s recovery philosophy is based on a 12-step model that recognizes drug and alcohol addictions as progressive, chronic and potentially fatal diseases. The Lantern is a fully self-supporting 501(c) 3 non-profit and the ability to pay is not a consideration for care. We rely on private donations and community support to ensure no one will be turned away because of financial issues.

While Cuyahoga County continues to experience a sharp reduction in overdose deaths, the need for treatment beds remains high. The Lantern is uniquely positioned in our community to help address this problem by providing long term residential care at absolutely no charge to our residents. Residential care at the Lantern provides an effective solution for men that suffer from substance use disorders.

Our 12-step recovery philosophy is not fear based, rather we try to empower our residents to choose sobriety for their own sake, regardless of external factors. Ultimately, the Lantern’s culture of sobriety is structured to cultivate men dedicated to living productive & happy lives through active engagement with the recovery community of Alcoholics Anonymous.

We believe that everyone deserves access to care, regardless of their ability to pay.
