Summer is for learning at Cuyahoga Community College’s Westshore Campus in Westlake. Here, Dr. Angela Mastronardi-Kuk works with students in dissecting a sheep’s brain in a camp for students in grades 5-8. The camp, held July 14-18, focused on understanding the brain’s control over all systems in the body.

Camp theme was  ‘Minding Your Brain Using STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.’

Activities included:

•  Aiding in the dissection of a sheep’s brain

•  Using microscopes to explore cells

•  Use of a 3D smart board to explore body systems

•   Exploring how the mind works like a computer and how people learn

•    Exploring the physics of optics and eyesight

•    Exploring the physics of electricity as applied to the wiring of the body

Tri-C faculty in biology; anatomy and physiology; psychology; physics and technology taught sessions during the five-day camp, providing students direct access to experts in a variety of fields.
