Eastern, Metropolitan and Westshore Campus to present speaker on April 2 and 3 as part of 2012-13 Celebrating Diversity Series
CLEVELAND – Educator and social activist Jim Keady visited Indonesia more than a decade ago to investigate how athletic apparel manufacturer Nike Inc. was treating its factory workers there.
He has been telling the world about the experience ever since, via his award-winning film Behind the Swoosh and hundreds of speaking engagements every year. Keady will speak at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) three times in early April as part of Tri-C’s 2012-13 Celebrating Diversity Series.
He will talk from on Tuesday, April 2, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Eastern Campus Auditorium and on Wednesday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Metropolitan Campus Theatre and from 6 to 7 p.m. in Room 112 of the Westshore Campus.
In his speech, Behind the Swoosh: Sweatshops & Social Justice, Keady, director of the New Jersey-based Education for Justice Inc., will talk about his life living with Nike’s factory workers and witnessing forced overtime, starvation wages, sexual harassment, physical violence and intimidation by supervisors and his efforts to end sweatshop abuses.
The Eastern Campus is at 4250 Richmond Road, Highland Hills; the Metropolitan Campus is at 29000 Community College Avenue, Cleveland, and the Westshore Campus is at 31001 Clemens Road in Westlake, Ohio.
This is a free event, but an RSVP is required for the Westshore Campus by calling 216-987-5849.
