The Village Foundation announced today that it plans to hold its 2013 Annual Memorial Day celebration immediately following the Bay Village community Memorial Day activities, at approximately 10:30 AM on Monday, May 27 at Cahoon Park on Lake Road in Bay Village.The event is chaired by Gary Heldt, Trustee.
The Village Foundation will hold its 11th annual Memorial Day Bronze Plaque celebration immediately following the Village parade and Veteran’s memorial service on Monday, May 27, 2013. The Bay High String Quartet (Jackson Brothers, Ashley DeYong—violin, Gail Foster—viola, Aubrey Theobald—cello), under the direction of Ms. Carrie Singular, and soloist tenor, Troy Ayers II, will perform. Local resident and meteorologist, Jon Loufman, will serve as master of ceremonies. All are welcome.
This year’s honorees will be John L.Yuhas and Lisa Huhndorf. Their names have been engraved on bronze plagues that will be placed on the T. Richard Martin Footbridge overlooking the lake in Cahoon Memorial Park.
John Yuhas was a graduate of Lakewood High School and Ohio State University. He spent 31 years in the Berea City School District as an elementary physical education teacher. A longtime resident of Bay, he worked many years with the Bay Village Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Yuhas recently passed away and is survived by his wife, 4 children and 10 grandchildren.
Lisa Huhndorf graduated from Bay High School and the University of Michigan. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from George Washington University. She received her pilot wings in 1992 at Williams Airforce base in Arizona. She was employed by Northwest Airlines until her untimely death at the age of 37. Her parents have dedicated this plaque in celebration of her life and as a tribute to her memory.
The Foundation will also announce the winners of two scholarships and will award seven community grants during the program.
. The T. Richard Martin and the Village Foundation Scholarships will be announced. The Village Foundation will also be honoring the seven local organizations that are receiving grants from the Foundation in 2013. Al Paulus, vice-president and chair of the grants committee announced that the winners of this year’s grants will be present to accept the funds. These volunteer organizations do a wonderful job in making Bay Village a better place to live and we are excited about the opportunity to help them in their efforts. We look forward to a wonderful day and we welcome friends and family of all those honored to attend this program.”
The program, that lasts about an hour, will be hosted by Jon Loufman, of Channel 19. The Bay High String Quartet, director, Carrie Singular. will play before and during the program. Tenor, Troy Ayers, will sing Nessun Dorma and Time to Say Goodbye. The names of all those living and dead that have been honored with permanent bronze plaques will be read; followed by a moment of silence and Taps to honor those who have passed away.
