On May 5, a Hollywood Dr. man reported that his 9mm handgun went missing from his minivan sometime after April 26. It could have been taken in Cleveland or Akron as well as from the driveway of his home. No signs of forced entry and no suspects.
An employee arriving for work at a Detroit Rd. gas station on May 7 at 4:53AM found a break-in. CCTV showed that at 4:12AM 4 masked suspects drove a full-size van (tan or cream with red or brown horizontal stripes, older, conversion style with running boards) into the plate glass window and stole an ATM. One suspect wore tan pants and a distinctive jacket with pink, white, and grey horizontal stripes.
A PA man visiting this area had his 1999 Acura Integra stolen from a Westford Cr. residence on the night of May 6. It was recovered in Cleveland the next day completely stripped. No suspects.
A 14-year-old Westlake boy reported a May 6 unsettling encounter with the driver of a smaller, newer silver car (possibly an American make). At apprx. 4PM, the car pulled up and stopped behind him as he walked on North Bay Dr. A white male; described as late 50’s, heavy-set, 5’10”-6′ tall, wearing glasses, moustache and a soul patch(tuft of hair under lower lip), medium length white hair combed straight back, wearing a red Cleveland Indians shirt, faded blue jeans, and white tennis shoes with black toes. The driver exited the vehicle, made eye contact, and followed him on foot. The boy ran to his home through backyards, and then saw the suspect drive off onto Center Ridge Rd. He told his father right away; his mother brought him to WPD on May 8 to report the matter.
On May 9 at 12:06AM, an ER Dr. at St. John Medical Center recognized a 34-year-old Elyria woman there as the subject of a bulletin warning medicos of her attempts to obtain Rx meds under false pretences. She was sent on her way by WPD and advised that returning would lead to a trespass charge.
A wallet, paperwork, and spare change were taken from a Beechwood Dr. man’s 2002 Oldsmobile minivan while it was parked in his driveway on the night of May 8. $40 cash and a credit card were also taken from the unlocked vehicle; no suspects. Some of the papers were found in a neighbor’s yard.
A 19-year-old Cleveland man was caught stealing merchandise worth $450 from a Crocker Park Blvd. store on May 9 at 10:18PM. He had been suspected of thefts by management since his hiring one month earlier. He was arrested for Petty Theft.
A defunct church on Columbia Rd. suffered $1000 in damages after unknown suspect(s) unsuccessfully tried to remove the A/C condenser between April 15-21. The incident was reported on May 9.
A 30-year-old Canterbury Rd. woman was arrested for Domestic Violence after a fight with her 12-year-old daughter over name-calling on May 9 at 10:55PM. The victim called a friend, whose father then called police. A witness saw the mother hit the child; the child also said her mother repeatedly smashed her head into the bathtub. The victim was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment by WFD. Cuyahoga Co. Children’s Services was notified.
A 34-year-old North Olmsted man drove to WPD on May 11 at 4:11AM to bond out a woman who had been arrested for OVI earlier that morning. He himself was also under the influence and was arrested for OVI as well; it was subsequently determined that he had been drinking with the woman before her arrest. He had also been using medicine prescribed to him. Both were later released to a sober friend.
A Westlake woman forgot her $13,000 wedding ring at a Center Ridge Rd. tanning salon on May 11 at 6:34PM. When she went back, it was gone. No suspects.
