A 13-year-old Westlake boy’s bike was stolen from the Porter Library on July 26 around 10:24AM. The suspect was caught on surveillance video and was arrested 4 days later. He is a 27-year-old Westlake man; he admitted to that theft and to another on July 25. He sold both bikes.
A red Schwinn boy’s bike was stolen from a Reeds Ct. garage on July 26 between 7:30AM and 3:40PM. In an all-too-rare happy ending, it was recovered 3 days later on Westchester Pkwy. and returned to the owner.
A 43-year-old Canterbury Rd. woman showed up intoxicated at her children’s Hilliard Blvd. day care on July 26 at 4:25PM. The staff drove her and her 5 and 3-year-old sons home, and then called WPD to check her welfare. Mom was found on the couch and was unable to stand without help; she was arrested for DCI and Child Endangering. Her father came and picked up the little boys; County Children’s Services was advised of the incident.
A Canterbury Rd. detached garage was spray painted with sexual epithets on the evening of July 26. The victim suspects a neighborhood juvenile.
A 17-year-old Bay Village boy tried to buy beer with a fake ID on July 26 at 7:13PM. The Giant Eagle clerk working the cash register, the auxiliary officer working security, and the patrolman assigned to investigate were not fooled. The youth was turned over to his father and will be filed on in Juv. Court for Certain Acts Prohibited (displaying a phony license or ID card).
A Regency Cr. man has had $4400 fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account in NYC. Two transactions went through; a third did not. He reported the matter on July 27. No suspects.
$36 worth of beer was stolen from a Detroit Rd. gas station on July 27 at 8:25PM. The suspect is a white male in his 20s, short brown hair, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans; he left eastbound on Detroit Rd. in a tan or gold 4door car. 15 minutes later, a theft of beer occurred at another Detroit Rd. gas station; the suspect was dressed the same way.
An office in a Crocker Rd. building was forcibly entered on the weekend of July 27-28. 2 laptops (total value $1400) and an undetermined amount of cash were taken; no suspects.
A 46-year-old Elyria woman reported that a 47-year-old Euclid man called her and followed her into a Vine St. parking garage on July 29. She has a TPO against this ex-boyfriend and had also reported similar violations on the same day to Elyria and Cleveland PDs. The Westlake City Prosecutor will rule on the local incident, which also included him threatening to beat her.
A car stereo and GPS unit were taken from an Avon Lake woman’s 1997 Pontiac Bonneville while she was at work on July 29. The passenger door lock was punched while she was at work at a Crocker Pk. Blvd. restaurant; no suspects.
Unknown suspects burnt a flag belonging to a home on Sleepy Hollow Dr. on the night of July 28 and again at two different homes on the same street on the night of July 30. Extra patrols have been detailed to the area. An officer canvassing the area on the morning of Aug. 2 located three more burned flags.
A 65-year-old Avon woman was arrested for Petty Theft after stealing toiletries and other items worth $58 from a Detroit Rd. store. Store personnel detained her on July 31 at 4:17PM.
An intoxicated 31-year-old guest from VA staying at a Clemens Rd. hotel thought himself quite the ladies man on Aug. 1 at 2:30AM. He had been pestering the female clerk for sexual favors; he was arrested for DCI and was evicted later that day.
Two vehicles belonging to a Hall Dr. man were gone through in his driveway during the night of July 31. A backpack containing a kindle reader was taken; similar property was recovered nearby. The victim was advised to come to WPD and see if the found items are his. A suspicious person was spotted nearby in a Maple Ridge Dr. yard at 3:52AM. He is described as a white male in his 30s with dark short hair, dark eyes, blue hoodie and jeans using a flashlight.
A cleaner’s wallet was taken from a meeting room at the Columbia Rd. YMCA on Aug. 1 between 12:30P-3:15PM. She cancelled her debit card before any illicit use took place; no suspects.
The catalytic converter was cut off a Westlake woman’s 2001 Chevrolet Venture on August 1 while parked at the RTA Park n Ride lot on Sperry Dr. No suspects.
A 2012 Chevrolet Cruze belonging to an East Crossings Pkwy. man was damaged on the night of Aug. 2. The vehicle was egged, written on (writing washed off), wrapped in saran wrap, and had a scratch made on the passenger side rear fender. No suspects.
A 15-year-old Avon Lake boy was reported driving erratically on I90 westbound at 3:53AM on August 4. He fled from police when signaled to stop, crashed into a guardrail on the Lear Rd. exit ramp, and ran off, and then fell over a wire fence. Avon and Avon Lake PDs assisted in searching for him; ALPD located him on Chester Rd. a short while later. He was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment and turned over to his mom there; he faces Operating a Vehicle after Underage Consumption, Felony Fleeing, Willful or Wanton Disregard for Safety, No OL, Seatbelt, Weaving Course, Obstruction, and Underage Consumption charges. The vehicle belongs to his grandmother.
