Since its founding in 1991, the race has raised more than $1.4 million for local charities – every penny going back to community causes right here in our own backyard.

For serious runners, it is a race staged to bring out the competitor in everyone – whether you want to test yourself against the 5 mile distance or gauge your abilities against some of the best running talents around.

For the wellness-oriented, it is a great way to highlight your personal fitness program, whether you run the full 5 miles or participate in the 2-mile walk.

For kids, it’s all about fun! Racing around the track at St. John Medical Center, taking home a prize for every participant, or cheering for mom or dad as they run is a great initiation into the world of fitness.

The annual North Coast Challenge, to be held this year on Sat., Aug. 31, is simply the best.

“NCC continues to remain a staple in the community by supporting local charities.  It is a privilege to be a part of such an amazing tradition,” says Rick Fagan, Chairman NCC.

It starts with a health fair on the hospital campus where you can catch a massage, enjoy healthy foods and kids can take part in face-painting, music and more.

A Community Event

Over the years, North Coast Challenge has become an annual community event, comprised of events such as a 5-mile chip timed run and 3.4 mile walk. Healthy refreshments are provided for participants and spectators. Local merchants display the latest in health and wellness products and the staff of St. John Medical center does free health screenings from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Music and children’s activities make it a fun day for the entire family. The North Coast Challenge is a family event where spectators can cheer on the runners and walkers and kids can have their face painted, healthy snacks and receive an award for participating in the 1 mile and 1/2 mile Kids Fun Runs!
