It was double vision at the West Shore Conference Cross Country Championships held in Bay Village’s Cahoon Park Saturday.
Bay’s Maddie Britton repeated as the girls champion, while Austin Fasciana took the title again in boys competition.
Bay’s boys and girls teams also captured the team trophies.
For Fasciana, the win marked a return to success after battling back from the mononucleosis that cut short his track season in the spring. “I did have some trouble breathing, but I had to keep pushing because I didn’t know how much the other runners had left,” he said. Fasciana clocked 16:15 to edge teammate Sean Kane’s 16:17 and Bay runner Jack Hautz’s 16:20.
Bay’s strength came in depth as the Rockets’ top five – Jack Hautz, Jeremy Gillespie,David Russell, Austin Buchwald, and Isaac Mertic finished in the top 12.
For Bay, Britton clocked 18:30 to outdistance Rocky River’s Anna Brandt’s runner-up time of 19:03. Other Bay scorers were Amanda Cusimano, Abby Christel, Olivia Bechtel and Alyse Arko.
