Westlake High School’s Academic Challenge Team finished undefeated in its bracket at the Aurora Invitational Tournament held Nov. 16. The win qualifies the team for regional competition.

Each week, students representing schools from all around Northern Ohio battle toward the season championship on Academic Challenge, now in its 46th year. Three teams compete for points by answering questions covering topics including math, science, history and current events. At the end of each program, the points are totaled, and at season’s end the three highest scoring teams return for the Championship match.

The Ohio Academic Competition Regional Tournament (North Coast Region) will be held April 12 at Olmsted Falls High School. Teams in Westlake’s bracket include Aurora, Grand Valley, Kenston, Southeast and Rootstown high schools. WHS team members are Aswin Bikkani, Alex Bikkani, Alex Lathem, Alan Garber, Ameesh Shah, Apshara Ravichandran and Paavani Reddy. WHS advisors are John and Sandy Packis.

You can watch Westlake take on James F. Rhodes and Nordonia high schools on Dec. 7. Academic Challenge airs on Saturdays at 70pm on WEWS NewsChannel 5.
