All Smiles at the St. Mary of the Woods “Senior” Prom!

DSC_2482-52St. Mary of the Woods resident John Chamulak was all smiles at the “Senior” Prom hosted at the Avon retirement community last Friday night. For the third year, members of the Avon High Key Club joined in the fun for a memorable evening of music, dancing and fun. Pictured with John are Key Club members  Dana Furnas, Nicole Hubbard, and Olivia Patterson.

It was truly a “Senior” Prom at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon last Friday as residents were joined by members of Avon High Key Club to  dance the night away! A balloon arch, lively music and multigenerational comradery made this a event a true celebration of community for the third year in a row.

“We had a blast,” said St. Mary of the Woods Activities Director Robin Hanna, who coordinated the event with the deeply appreciated support of Avon Key Club Advisor Susan Hutner and team.

“Isn’t this just wonderful!” exclaimed resident Frances Gruska, one of the retirement community residents who was crowned Homecoming Queen.

This “Senior” Prom is made especially significant for some St. Mary of the Woods residents because they had never attended a prom in their own high school days. Things like World War II and the Great Depression got in the way. But, thanks to the Avon High Key Club, these good people get to enjoy a formal high school outing at last once in their lives.

Many thanks to the students of Avon High’s Key Club. They got there early to set up balloons, made sure residents were asked to dance, and made a priceless contribution to the spirit of the Avon community.
