Representatives from the North Olmsted Fire Department, the City of North Olmsted, and St. John Medical Center unveiled a free, lifesaving app, demonstrated its use, and provided CPR instruction on Sun., July 20, at Great Northern Mall.
The goal is to improve sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survival rates in the community. Visitors learned about the new “PulsePoint” app, a free CPR “citizen first responder” mobile phone application that improves community response to a sudden cardiac arrest victim. It notifies CPR-trained bystanders and citizens that CPR is needed and also the location of a nearby AED unit. In the event of an emergency where CPR is needed, anyone in a half-mile radius who has downloaded the app will receive a text message informing them of the incident, as well as directions to the victim and nearest defibrillator.
