Football at Bay High is fun again! With a classic, hard-hitting 17-14 win over visiting Lakewood last Friday night, the Rockets rolled to 4-1 this season, off to their best start in years.
The win was paced by great running from Nick Best and the John Koz led offense. Both the offensive and defensive fronts played great, successfully marinating the huge Lakewood line through the first half to set up some second-half fireworks.
It was one of the hardest-hitting games Bay fans could remember in years. At times, the Rockets played more like guided missiles. Best lacerated the Ranger defensive unit with explosive runs. He ran for 130 yards in the second half alone, ending the night with 175 yards on 21 carries.
Under new coach Ron Rutt, the Rockets are in the hunt both in the West Shore Conference and in the OHSAA playoff standings.
The success this season is a win for the program. Former coaches Gary Sherwood and Tom Kaiser are also prowling the sidelines with Kaiser leading the team in the Wolfpack howl after the victory.
“This just never gets old,” said Kaiser after the game as the Rockets celebrated a quality win. The team faces SWC foe North Olmsted in a non-conference tilt this Friday at N.O.
