The Avon Lake Women’s Chorus is delighted to welcome Bay Village resident Joan Knurek as one of three newcomers this season. Joan offers the flexibility of singing first or second soprano as the group begins preparing programs that will be performed for residents of assisted living/extended care facilities and other local group gatherings in western Cuyahoga and Lorain Counties in the approaching holiday season.
Also new to the Chorus this fall is soprano Jennifer Hughes and pianist Maria Szarek, both of Avon Lake. Jennifer recently moved from California to the Lake Erie coast and — along with Joan — enjoys the opportunity to blend her voice in choral singing. Maria, an employee of Avon Lake City Schools who often provides piano accompaniment for various student program, is a graduate of Bowling Green State University and holds a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Ursuline College.
The Chorus rehearses at Avon Lake United Church of Christ on Mondays at 9:30 a.m.. and is open to all women seeking to expand their circle of friends through a mutual love of music. For more information or to book a performance, contact Irene at 440/937-8827 or e-mail email@example.com.
About the Chorus
The Avon Lake Women’s Chorus is a volunteer, non-profit (501-C-3) organization that performs upon request for residents of assisted living/extended care facilities and local group gatherings in western Cuyahoga and Lorain counties.
Professionally directed by Ms. Jenny Zapfe, the chorus prepares semi-annual programs with piano accompaniment featuring a variety of vocal music for spring and for the fall/winter holiday season. Women who enjoy singing are invited to rehearsals on Mondays, 9:30-11:30 a.m., January-April & September-November at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ (32801 Electric Blvd.). Membership not restricted to Avon Lake residents. Sopranos, altos, lady tenors welcome! Choral group experience and ability to read music is helpful. No audition necessary.
While a modest donation is requested for bookings, we are able to offer a limited number of programs regardless of ability to pay, thanks to a generous grant this past year by the Nord Family Foundation. Donations enable us to purchase music, give stipends to our director and accompanist, and offer music scholarships when possible.
